David Pleat

The more I think about it - and it's not just a knee-jerk reaction to last night's result - the more I'm coming round to the idea that David Pleat may be the right man for the Spurs job.

 

• Already has full knowledge and relationship with the players
• He plays his football how football should be played (he did, after all, have Hoddle, Waddle and Ardiles in the same 1986/87 team)
• He's already proved himself at Spurs before, albeit 16 years ago, by finishing 3rd in the league and taking them to the FA Cup Final in the same season
• He likes brasses

He the man.

that year tho, lost to woolwich littlewoods cup replay a very long trian journey back to deepest kent for me with only Jack and Mary for company....

Stating that he played with Hoddle & Ardiles is surely not a good thing when saying he'd be good as manager. Unless he's an oldie and managed the team. Didn't think he looked old enough though. I was a somewhat naive 11-year-old at the time, ESG. My dad told me he "had to leave because of problems with his wife". That was good enough for me, and I disappeared upstairs to listen to the True Blue album by Madonna for the 17th time that day!

Well, 16 years is a long time (a majority of my life in fact) and by the sounds of it it's all water under the bridge. Unless he does become manager and carries on Hoddle's record.

As I've stated on another forum, I agree that Pleat is the man for the job. However, I would like to see an understudy brought in to learn the ropes. David Ginola would be a good candidate. He has an excellent footballing brain and bags of passion to go with it and a love for the club. He has been coaching in France for a while. He will need a lot of training but it may just work in the long term.
