Great news about Sincs staying.

Not surprised about Ben Porter and Simon Martin leaving due to wanting regular football. All the best to them at their new clubs.

I'm surprised that Steve Bateman thinks that Danny Burnell/Sean Sonner partnership was such a success.I thought in some matches they proved their worth but in other games they were non-effective. I thought they were both better when they had Simon Martin along side either of them.

I'm sorry to see Simon Martin depart [and Ben Porter come to that]. I thought a lot of fans were unfair to Simon Martin in games, by being biased against his style of football. What brings a smile to my face is that he isn't dropping down a level but he's going back up a division and so,as his playing record shows,he's not quite the mug, some of our supporters reckon him to be.

Good luck to both players.Hope they're a success wherever they play.

3spirit, It's all about opinions.

Some people liked Simon Martin and some people didn't.

I don't think it was because they were 'biased against his style of football', they just thought that certain parts of his game were just not good enough.

Yes, Simon Martin has got a good playing record but is no spring chicken.

As for going back up a level, the proof will be if he commands a regular place or just sits on the bench.

Say what you want about Simon Martin's style of play but Sean Sonner won more headers than him last year (and he's only 5ft 3)

I am happy that Sincs is staying as I think he is our most creative player and chips in with at least 10 goals a season.

I do wish Martin and Porter success in their new clubs

I honestly think we can win this league now that Sincs is staying with a few additions.

Great news about Sincy, if the pitch at Beaconsfield holds out he could tear teams apart at Holloways Park...

Sad to see Simon Martin leave as he always played with his heart on his sleeve but for a target man, was too nice for me.

So, looking like:

GK - Fanner, Jackson

Def - Sweeney, Bowden-Haase, Brown, Woozely, Perkins, Murphy

Mid - Sinclair, Coyne, Logie, Byrne, Swift, Herron, Bateman

Att - Burnell, Sonner, Abbey

Good options, Logie can cover at centre back if needed... Byrne can cover both full back positions and all 4 midfield positions, I think we'll see the real Shaun Byrne this season, as a local lad, I hope he cements his place in the team if I'm honest...

In my opinion, the 3 players that Bates is looking to bring in need to be a central midfielder (hopefully Adam Martin) and 2 new strikers...

Opinions, you're so right. As I've said before we're ALL entitled to them.

My observation was that Simon Martin often came under a lot of stick for being a bit cumbersome and his lack of prowess in front of goal and his ungainly footballing ability. I have to admit, I myself, could get frustrated by his 'not hitting the target from six yards' but I could also appreciate his work ethic, nuisance to other defenders and his ability to link up play for his fellow striker/strikers.

From my own point of view, certain sections of the Slough fans, have very distinct favourites, who can never do wrong ie,currently Sean Sonner and so they overlook their mistakes. Simon Martin unfortunately for him, wasn't a crowd favourite but to a lot of good non-league managers,he offers an experienced/hard working, honest prescence up front. Given that Colin Payne/Hemel Hempstead want Simon Martin in their squad,at the start of the season, proves my point, regardless of whether he's playing or is on the bench. With strikers like Denis Fenemore and Ross Lafayette [hope I've spelt it right?] playing off him,Simon Martin wil be an asset to the Hemel squad.

As for Slough Town,we needed to freshen up our strike force.Someone had to leave. The writing was on the wall for Simon.

My concern now is who are we going to replace him with because we're back to the midget syndrome again with Sonner, Burnell and Abbey. We haven't got to worry about offensive corners now we have NBH back and Alex Brown added but in open play our crosses can't just be the booted up high ball into the box, as this tactic was ridiculous last year in certain games and made a mockery of the so called ' excellence of the Burnell/Sonner partnership'.

Nobody doubts Sean Sonner's abilty to jump high and head/flick on balls against an opposition defender 30 yards from goal .Our problem is he isn't a natural goalscorer with his head in the penalty area. To my mind,we should be on the look out for a forward in the mould of Ian Hodges/Keith Scott/Paul McKinnon, who will not only be goal scoring headerer but also a thorough nightmare to the oppositions defence and someone who can actually 'hold the ball up' for our other attackers to latch on to.

I know Steve Bateman wants to play 'his pure football way' which I am in agreement with but just occasionally,we need to play 'ugly' to beat some of the bigger, more robust sides in this division and that's unlikely to happen if we lack an obvious target man.

I cannot disagree with a lot you've said there 3spirit.

We can still play the 'pure football way' but during a game when the crosses come into the opposition area or the times when we will have to clear our lines and hoof it upfield, if we can, as you say, get an Ian Hodges/Keith Scott type player to make a real nuisance of himself and bring Danny Burnell into play, I think we will have a strike force to be reckoned with.

Also, If we can get Adam Martin to sign for us and be fit to start the season, I think we can give the favourites to win the league, St Neots, a real run for there money.

He'd previously stated that although the Harrow job would tempt him and it's close to his heart, he wants to finish the job with Slough and give the fans "what they deserve" - so hopefully things haven't changed since then, it would be a big loss.
