New Ground

Recommended Posts

Hayes and Yeading are due to move into their new ground the season after next. On their web-site, as a way of raising some funds, someone has suggested that they do what AFC Wimbledon did and get supporters to 'Buy a Brick'. They say that Wimbledon charged £40 for supporters to have their name on a brick, in a prominant place in the clubhouse, and a certificate.

If and when we get our new ground, to celebrate this momentous occasion, I just thought this was an excellent way of giving supporters the chance to be part of Slough's history and, of course, to raise some money on the back of it.

Dagenham & Redbridge ran a "Buy A Brick" campaign when they built their Carling Stand when they were in the Conference.

Since then they have never looked back and have become an established Football League team.

Windsor are charging £250 for a brick and this includes the first years season ticket - so the brick is about £120

As our ground is still a little way away, it would give the opertunity for fans to save a bit more towards the costs and aim to provide bigger investments - i.e. fans could pay for the stands behind the goals, or a chicken run along the side opposite the main stand?

If Roger is reading this - could the Barmy army set up a fund for a stand? as I would be willing to chip in regularly for something of this sort that shows the fans are making a true contibution to getting the new ground up and running.

It would be interesting to see how many bricks we could sell. I for one would be interested. And I am sure many of our other season ticket holders would to. Seems

a great way to raise one-off funds. How many do you think Staines-upon-Thames rebel?

The problem we have is that many of our fans don't attend at the moment and won't until we are back in the town.

Out of the 250 odd we have attending regularly in order to maximise the bricks sold we should not over price the bricks.

also if this happened those who have stayed loyal and supported the club through the bad times should definitely get priority if there was a limit to how many bricks could be sold

at least half of the season ticket holders would be interested i would have thought. i certainly would buy one

Windsor Rebel - firstly it is a case of the pricing - £10 for a plain brick, £25 for a named brick, £50 for a breeze block......:wall:

You can either make it cheap enough for someone to by a brick at each home game - £5 to £10 per brick, or you go for the more specilised (but more costly for the club to provide) of named bricks - to me it makes more sense to go for mainly plain bricks, as you will then "sell" more of them, and then a limited run of named bricks for those who buy say 100 normal bricks or pay a premium for the named brick.

To put this in context - the price of an average brick is 40p-50p and breeze blocks are about 90p - £1 each - Wickes on-line prices.

Named bricks I would guess must be about £10 each.

So in real terms if you "buy a brick" each week then you are actualy buying 10.

I think we can build on this idear - however it will need firm foundations to make sure it does not fall down.

Arsenal have run a similar project to redevelop an area outside the stadium known as "Armoury Square". Alongside fan brought bricks there are benches dedicated to 11 legends detailing their names, goals and appearances.

Given the history of Slough Town FC that could be something to consider?

I think we should run this bricks idea past the management committee at the earliest opportunity. What do others think?

Excellent idea. Though, I think they shouldn't be overpriced that way you're get more people interested [around £50 mark]. At Twickenham - England's rugby ground, they have bricks named [red brick/gold writing],incorporated into the path before you get into the stadium. So theoretically, they could be put anywhere.

It is a very good idea, I know Southampton did one for St Mary's and it looks very good outside of the stadium, as does one of similar design in the floor outside Twickenham (which also has an English rugby legend at the centre of each set.

My Dad's rugby club did the same too for the extension to their clubhouse, but rather than having printed bricks have had a board printed with the names of all the people who donated money through the system. They also ran different price categories for the bricks.
