Who's been slagging off the CCL now?

Recommended Posts

Last year the Walton Casuals captain was the BTK who thought he was too good for the CCL despite his team finishing in a relegation position. "If we had gone down to the Combined Counties I would have had to leave the club" (http://www.thisisloc...Stags_lifeline/)

now someone else in Ryman Land has been slagging off our league - " i was in the u.k. over easter and watched a bit of ryman league football, i have got to know a few people involved in this league, and i can assure you that their comments on the standard of ccl was less than complimentary." (http://www.thisisgue...slands-economy/)

Now, I've not got a problem with people having a go at the CCL if they're involved with better clubs / leagues but quite frankly Ryman 1 (north and south) is appalling these days. It used to be quite a good level of football for some reason it's gone downhill fast. Of course there are some decent sides in it, and some decent fans but there are a load of players and people involved who don't realise they'd struggle in the CCL these days.

I'd love to see some proper relegation from step 4. Half the sides would struggle to get back up again.

Just skim reading those comments, a lot of people are deriding the CCL as 'dire' or 'awful', opinions presumably formed from the many games they have seen in the competition. No-one is suggesting the quality is great, but it's not as bad as suggested. Anyway, if the standard is so bad (i.e. too bad for them) then they will only have to suffer it for 2 seasons maximum!

We have seen it all before, heard it all before, sure I read somewhere that Windsor F.C.commented about the Standard of C.C.L. Football not being up too much.Bet Tonbridge Angels thought that when Guildford beat them, likewise Carshalton Ath when Molesey beat them.South Park running Cray Wanderers close. Nothing gets a C.C.L. Team up for a game, than playing B.B.B. Teams.

Think I only saw 2 or 3 CCL games last year as I was mainly watching Merstham in the RL1S. I think VP has a good point as the quality isn't that much better. Last year there were two very good, very consistent sides (Leatherhead and Bognor). Of the other teams that did well, they mainly did well by cheating and thuggery. Overall on a technical skill basis, there isn't much to differentiate.

As was said by a few Merstham fans at the end of last season's woeful campaign, "we'd struggle in the CCL". They might have had a case.

This is very interesting because I used to think the same about the Southern League when we were in the Ryman.

The Southern League always used to carry a 'let's see how high we can kick people in the air' type of tag and when we were moved from the Ryman to the Southern I have to say that I wasn't looking forward to it. I was pleased to find that the standard of the Southern League had changed considerably and it was the Ryman that had switched to a more physical than footballing league.

I have heard many stories about the quality of the CCL, some good and others very bad, and hope that the bad stories are not true as we at Windsor are looking forward to a fair and interesting season.

wether you think we are good or bad you will no doubt have some very good matches in this league, at this point I would be more cocerned about securing a pitch and a manager than worrying about a league you aint definitely in yet, loads of teams have come into this league and exspected to romp it (ask AFC Wimbledon and Withdean and Peppard etc. ) we aint no mugs!

IF you do get into the league then you'll find a right old mixed bag in the CCL. There's physical, there's some nice football at times, there's some awful whinging at times, there are some good sides and some pretty poor but, because it's rare for players to be on contract at this level you may find a poor team in August are a good team come April and vice versa as the squads can change so much.

I'm not saying the CCL is better than the Ryman South as a whole, far from it, I'm just saying it's a lot closer than some people may think. I'll admit I don't see many step 4 games each season but when I do I'm always underwhelmed.

I saw Met Police play Godalming last season at Imber Court when Martini had just left Godalming and they were sitting fourth in the table. They'd lost a couple of players already to W&H, but had most of the side out that won the Surrey Senior Cup in 2009/10. However, Met Police wiped the floor with them - winning 8-0 I think it was - with some great attacking football. They also won the League, so must have had a pretty good season!
