MISA AGM update

Many thanks to the members who attended the AGM a week ago.

Those who have rejoined but were unable to attend will be sent their membership cards in the next week or so.

If anyone would like an account of the proceedings please ring or email Keith Lewis (01843 226963 keith.lewis2008@talktalk.net.)

The new committee is as follows.

Chairman Tom McKenna

Vice-chairman Alan Bonner

Treasurer/Secretary Keith Lewis

Committee members

Carl Cully

Melvyn Ellingham

Harvey Lockwood

David Miles

We are some way short of the number we feel necessary to make the committee more effective so if anyone would like to join us you would be most welcome. Our next committee meeting takes place next Tuesday June 21st 7.30 pm at Hartsdown so why not come along and see if you have something to offer. Incidentally many thanks to the members who have offered help on match days and at boot fairs but who do not wish to join the committee.

An update on the match sponsorship mentioned previously. MISA have lodged £300 with MFC which allows sponsorship of a match yet to be arranged. Ten members will be drawn from the membership again at a future date. Originally the idea was that we would sponsor a match when the number reached 150 - the Treasurer was talking in terms of 'financial viability'! - but we've decided to go ahead whatever the final number turns out to be. Currently the membership numbers are encouraging, up on this time last year, but still well short of the Treasurer's utopia!

Thus it remains for just £5/£3 any member will have the opportunity of taking part in the draw for what should be a memorable day out.

A reminder that a boot fair takes place at Hartsdown this Sunday June 19th with 'boots' costing only £2. Cars allowed in at 7am with the public an hour later. Refreshments will be available.

Thank you.

Having realised its about time i renewed-just a couple of minor points:

I went to official site to download the form which you do by going to fans and then clicking on to the Misa link. Two clicks and a third to get the form.

Was'nt there previously a direct one click link on the official site-and MISA¬were on the front page of the official site as opposed to being found under fans.

Maybe it has to be that way-but strikes me that MISA`are a bit hidden these days on the official site.

Very minor detail-when you go to download form link-it flashes and disappears-thus you have to click on an invisible link and persist.

Minoe detail-buit it may just make the difference to a handful of people looking to join.

(form needs changing to 2011/12 season by the way )

On a wider issue ,it has always gnawed away at me as to why its an INDEPENDENT supporters association.

If i recall correctly-it relates to issues of about 6 seasons ago ?

Are those circumstances still there ?

Appreciating that this is a misa issue and maybe not a forum debating issue -and perhaps covers old ground-so forgive me-but what does the word independent conjure up.

To me- the word independent implies a load of rebels who have gone there own way,and that there is also another supporters club which is not independent.

Independents (political parties/newspapers tend to be 'minor parties'-so is the word independent a good one to use ?

Does the marginal supporter/outsider think -well i'd rather join the 'official' party.

Again-would it make a difference and maybe get just one or two additional subscibers to the 'supporters club'

We appreciate that nothing could be further from the truth-but what does the 'outsider'; get the impression of ?

Is it time-whatever happened in the past-that the word independent is dropped ?

Are past personnel /circumstances still prevalent today ?

Without incurring lots of cost/stationery etc. is a gentle rebranding due ?

Is membership too cheap (for adults).

What do you get for a fiver these days-one glass of wine ?

By offering memebership at just £5 does in fact it devalue the product ?

Is it a bit like poundland compared to Sainsburys?

The same goods but in fact people prefer sainsburys because the brand is better-

At £5 is it conceived as ' not serious' and is too cheap ?.

If you pay more-you want to get something out of it-and so will make more demands on misa which in turn leads to improvement , higher standards and involvement.

If you pay too little-you almost dismiss it and thus 'can't be bothered' .

Why did i not renew earlier-because its a £5 bill and not top of mind;but my bills for £50 are 'top of mind' and thus taken more seriously, but at the same time-i want something back for my £50 investments, and thus it leads to improvement and involvement

( i confess to not having done my market reserach to see what memebership costs at other supporters clubs so perhaps i am simply very wrong but £5 strikes me as very very cheap (for adults)

I appreciate if there is legs in that-its a discussion point at a misa meeting and not on here-but i guess i'm offering it up as an initial discussion point

Micheal, maybe a solution would be for members who think the membership fee is too low they could forward a donation to MISA on top of the fee. Members and supporters who can only afford a fiver will not be isolated from being members. I wondered if this would be solution.

This indeed happened at the AGM. A pensioner I know gave the Treasurer a picture of Adam Smith and said the rest was a donation.

Every little helps.

When you have found out who Adam Smith is please forward same to the Treasurer.
