Budgets

I wonder who is going to be splashing the cash in the Combined Counties League next season? From what I have heard there is some massive budgets in the Prem and there are some decent wages being paid in Div One,which considering the Level/step we are playing and the current financial state of some clubs I find it quite surprising, I wonder if every team in both leagues are paying some players.

Reading a thread on the Nomad (Sussex League) forum the other day I was quite surprised how few clubs seemed to be paying at all! That's assuming they were telling the truth.

There are some very big payers in the Sussex County League

I can confirm that Westfield have a budget of £0 again this season and I can't see that changing any time soon. All we can offer players is the chance to play football and a nice friendly atmosphere for a good drink after.

We are fortunate enough to soon be in the position where we will be able to offer a nice new club house, changing rooms etc etc, and hopefully the pitch is going to be class when it is handed over, but Westfield has always been about local players playing for the club to enjoy their football.

We obviously want to do well and have ambitions of getting promotion to the Prem in years to come, but I can't imagine that it will be aided by big wages. Fair play to those who can afford the speculated wages that are banded about, and if we are all honest clubs like ours who struggle with the simple running costs would be over the moon if we found ourselves in their position, but realistically we have to look to improve by getting the right people into the club to attract other players and keep trying to progress that way.

I think that it's definitely possible to get promotion out of Div 1 without a wage budget and think that I am correct when saying that Knaphill didn't pay players the season they nearly went up!?

It would be very interesting to see who in Div 1 are paying and how they get on this year in comparison to those that are not, and to see how those that haven't got the budgets in the Prem cope considering all the talk of big money flying about.

We won Division 1 a couple of seasons ago, without paying players, and survived (actually did better than expected), in the Premier Division last season - again without paying players - so it definitely can be done.

Agree with Briggers we didn't pay anyone last season but done well to a group of players who were hungry and became a close knit group who didn't just turn up each week to collect there wages.

All very true and its a credit to MV who state that they got promoted from Div. 1 and was in a comfortable postion in the CCL Prem last season without paying players, so they say.......... but if you look at the CCL Premier last season, the ''alledged'' moneybags, Guildford, Chertsey, Camberley, Badshot Lea, Egham the first 3 teams named finished in the top 4 with only Molesey separating them, that's why it has been said that both Badshot Lea and Egham have underachieved.

So in theory, looking at the stats above, it does pay to have a decent budget if your looking to get out of the CCL but I am not nieve to notice that's not always the case, but in most, 'cos players chase the money, it needs a good manager to gel these players to make promotion possible.

Nice Guy - You wrote re Mole Valley we didnt pay players or so we say - I can most definatly guarentee we have no money thrown around at our club whatsoever(except the obvious massive budget i asked for)

The way to be successful at this level of football is to create a friendly but professional atmosphere where players can enjoy playing at a good level of football. Throw in ambition and people that work hard to make things happen behind the scenes and you have a perfect recipe.

Brings me onto another point. Why dont clubs live within their means? Now dont get me wrong, I dont know much about Lammas but im pretty sure they dont have that much to spank and are relying on investors where if it all goes wrong, f's off and leaves the club in the mire. The players wont stay as they have no loyalty to the club and are only there for the money.

Look at Sheerwater a few years ago? Or Hornchurch?

Sureley the most progressive way is to build yourself a good solid foundation first? If you have that money, do up the facilities? Attract local lads that want to be apart of your club, get the community involved (hard work I know) and slowly build upwards. Then over time the income will increase and you can start paying extra out of that, and if it goe wrong, you have a good base to start again from.

There you go, its down to you then there's no money at MV.......I hope you feel guilty ...lol !! !

Luke your comments are very commendable, but we have to be realistic. I would suggest that all previous CCL Premier Champions paid money, North Greenford certainly did, reputed to paying their 2 main strikers £250.00 alone and they got promoted ! Chertsey and Guildford last season were paying good money which one should have been promoted, and the other did. I would like to think that AFC Wimbledon paid their players especially with their following and that Cooper played for them and he'doesn't come cheap ! Merstham and Chipstead also paid players, so whilst I appreciate your comments, if players and club want ambition to progress up the levels, money will be an important factor and that's a fact...........reality check sorry !

'Hurrys back and edits last post'. I dont think the issue is so much paying the players, I just think clubs should have abit of foundation before they do. Then by all means go for it spank money on players and good luck to ya see ya in the Rymans (Or southern)
