Not wishing to be a purveyor of doom but we've had brilliant individuals in goal and defence for the last two years. That hasn't translated into a strong defensive unit however. Let's wait and see if the new players, whoever they are, can play together with the rest of the team, as a team, to make us more solid.

Agree.

 

 

It's good to be optimistic but lets not go overboard.

 

Simon Sweeney has had an operation on his ankle and might take time to fully recover and NBH, I think picked up an injury last season playing in Scotland.

 

Alex Brown is a virtual unknown to us and we are not going to sign Richard Hayward so lets be cauciously optimistic without going overboard.

Seems my source isn't quite as well informed as I thought, sorry all but he may have been trying to throw me off track.... I have a horrible feeling that the player leaving is Danny Murphy, I think Hitchin made him an offer, I hope I'm wrong...

 

So with the signings, I can see us playing 3-5-2....

Really pleased to have NBH back, think we missed him last season. Also pleased that Woozley seems to be staying and has been made coach/captain. Natural leader and really impressed me. Not seen Alex Brown yet, but for me at times last season when we did not have the ball we were quite easy to play against during some games. Hopefully with these defensive minded players joining we'll be better without the ball.

 

Also very happy Adam Martin will hopefully be still with us when he returns from his injury.

 

Still slightly worried about the goalkeeper situation with the number one goalkeeper not being known. Last season we had five different goalkeepers throughout the season that were first-choice at some stage of the season. If you look at the two promoted sides Arlesey had Richard Haywood as their number one all season and Hitchin had Martin Bennett. Whoever is number one we will need a good solid season behind them forcing a consistent selection in the team. We can't go chopping and changing really if we want promotion in my opinion.

 

I'd still like to see a Wilko type character in midfield and a targetman as well, plus some decent trialists would be good. Hopefully that's what Bates is looking at.

I personally hope that Charlie Fanner will be given a good opportunity to earn the number 1 keeper position as from what we saw of him last season he seems to be an excellent keeper considering he had never played at this level before.

Just look at one of his first games, against Hitchin, at times he kept us in it against the best attackers in the league.

my thoughts as well ian does not matter how good a player is if he is not a team player then you don't have a team.just hope that they all are.

For all we know RR, Dillon could be one of the 3/4 other players Bates is trying to sign. What worries me is Steve Sinclair leaving, if he does, we should try and sign Christian Nanetti from Ashford, maybe Bates is trying but only time will tell!!!

Give it a rest Staines, where in football do football fans find out direct from the manager before they find out from the press about what is happening with their club?. In what way does it matter that the press find out before you? What actually matters is what the new signings do on the pitch. What would you say if Bateman announced new signings on the internet and you didn`t have internet access? Should he phone up each and every supporter personally and tell them? Grow up and let him get on with his job.

Aerially we should be a lot better in defence this year compared to last with NBH and Alex Brown.I'm wondering if Steve Bateman intends playing three central defenders with Dave Woozley sitting between the above two mentioned or whether Alex Brown is going to be cover for NBH. Either way that looks a formidable defence with Simon Sweeney and Danny Murphy on the flanks.My only concern is the speed of the three centre halves as NBH and Dave Woozley are not the quickest.Not seen Alex Brown to know but according to the Walton Casuals website, they say he's a footballing centre half,which is unusual for a defender so tall.
