Players response - Town Crier Response

As I said I didn't want to wash my dirty laundry in public but I feel yet again the truth is not coming out and you are trying to tailor this to best suit you. I must say I do like the way you blocked me responding...!

 

If you are going to tell a story at least tell the complete story. I texted three texts to Craig and you have only mentioned the bits that suit.!!

 

My first text was after waiting 9 weeks for Craig to speak to me...... During that time I had spoken with Craig several times and was helping him try to acquire two ex dartford players. At no point did Craig mention a deal to me about next season. Behind the scenes Wildy was signed after the Sutton came and Oates had been called and offered a rise.

Craig had mentioned that he was looking to sign another lad who could play centre half but wanted him to play midfield. Thats fair enough. Myself and Craig had arranged to meet last Tuesday at the club to help secure the two mentioned dartford players and after we were going to talk. I left my mobile at home tuesday and on returning home had a text from Craig saying he was seeinng one of the lads at lakeside and the other he was going to call. He said he would talk to me after his holiday. That is when I sent my first text. No threat was made I was just putting across what i would like for next season..! Craig replied are you saying you will leave unless you get a rise to which I replied No I am saying that keeping over 50% clean sheets, the club winning its first thropy in 35 years and finishing four points of the playoffs and winning managers player of the year that if I was ever going to get a rise it would be off the back of a season like this. I said that I have never threatened any manager in my life and that if he didn' want me next season then that is fine...we can part company as essex champions and as friends.

 

Craig text back - Ok fair enough but the problem is that the budget is the same as last year and we need better quality going forward..! (which I agreed with him). I can really not give you a figure this early. I hope you stay buts thats the best I can offer.

 

That is when I texted him back and said that I would wait if I was younger but my football money helps me support my family.

 

This is when Craig rang - He asked me to wait as he was going away on holiday and on his return he wanted to ring around and see which players where coming on board and which players werent. He said then he would be able to offer me something. I said but what happens if you get the players you want and there is only a small amount left in the kitty....I said I would like to think that you would be embarrased offering me a reduced wage and I would be upset because I would have told all the other clubs to go away. He said speak to those clubs and see what they can offer you...then wait a week...those ryman north teams will wait a week and I will speak to you next sunday (26th). I stupidly agreed.

 

The next day fellow player tells me he told Craig he is leaving - Craig said he was hoping he would stay and play centre half ( my position) and they were going to offer him a rise..

 

So thats Wildy, Oates and a cous all being made offers and all getting rise but I was told to wait...... I also hear that he is offering money to other players he is trying to bring to the club which I have helped him with and I thought to myself what is going on. With Cous leaving and our discussion the following night I thought he would call and as he lost cous secure me for next season.

 

Did I get a call.....I didn't and I just thought to myself if a 3 times league winning player who has won numerous end of season awards isnt the kind of player he wants then I will go. I didn't deserve to be treated like this.

 

So I tell Craig on Friday that I am leaving. I get some abuse back and on saturday morning I get a text saying I was going to be offered a rise.!!! its funny how two players get told they were going to get a rise after they have said they have left....!!

 

If in the 9 weeks from Craig saying he wanted to keep me he has never offered me a new deal. If in our conversations he would have offered me even the same deal I would have taken it....! or do you think I like travelling further and spending more time away from my family?!!

 

But you put your spin on this as you please.....I guess in this day and age it is to much to stick your hand up and a mistake was made...!!

 

I hope your daughter has a nice wedding at the weekend.

I agree with you I did ask for a rise & Craig was unable/unwilling to commit any sort of deal to me so I decided to leave. - that is how it was and whilst angry last week I have no hard feelings towards anyone as this is football and you have to get the best players you can with what you have.

Oh well, for whatever reason Flanners has moved on. There s always two sides to every story and the answer's probably somewhere in the middle. I wish him all the best at Maldon.

 

Hopefully we will be able to bring in some experience to replace Micah, Cous and Flanners as we are looking a bit light on experience all over the park now.

An intresting read makes a change for us avarage fans to find out why some players leave,as it was said earlier there are always 2 sides to a story.

 

Shame Flanners and Cous are moving on but that's the way things are at this level on a plus side looks like Wildy has signed up so that's positive news.

Possibly because the management are being cautious having previously published player news only to find other clubs have thrown their towl into the ring and made a counter offer....

 

...and that there are players out there that love a bargaining "chip" in order to get the best deal (not that one can blame them but whatever happened to the "contract" of a "hand shake" but hey, I'm being naive or at best "innocent").
