Basically we need a local council who desire to have a Football League club,or i guess we could always do a MK Dons and just steal another towns established football league club, see my earlier post which deals with some of the complexities of the Clubs plight.

So what do the people of Basildon need to do to get the council to take this on board?

well the Council need to find Basildon United a new ground but this will cost money of course and nows hardly the time for councils to spend money on such projects.

I thought it odd that one of the poorest boroughs in England (Newham) can guarantee a loan of £40million to the hapless hammers, and yet spend very little on grass roots sport.

As all local authorities have a legal obligation to maximise revenue on all its assets, any club that currently play in a council owned ground will soon be faced with enormous increases in rent, as its more politically acceptable to shaft a non league football club, than say close a swimming pool, so you could argue that its understandable that no council would spend large amounts of money on a stadium for a club thats unable to pay the market value to use it.

Have 1 club in the town and after that has been done, get people in to run the club ie committee etc, etc, that actually care and know something about non-league football

i take it thats another pop at me and my club:

here is only one club in Basildon with senior status

there is only one club in Basildon who compete in the FA Cup

there is only one club in Basildon with their own ground

there is only oneclub in Basildon who can stage Cup Finals on their pitch

funny you mention having a commitee i can think of a club with plently of commitee members who has none of the above despite being in existence longer than us.

no youre right i should leave Basildon United and get in ten commitee members, ten senile old farts sitting in a room scoffing ham and pickle sandwiches full of their own self importance, all with their own self serving agendas.lets have a commitee and a sub commitee,a select commitee lets make amendents to resolutions youre right thats the way to run a football club.

how many commitee members does it take to make out a pitch?

how many commitee members does it take to unblock the mens bogs?

how many commitee members does it take to sweep out the changing rooms?

Come to think of it you may be on to something with the commitee idea, yes all clubs need more commitee members,in the same way as the country needs more MPs,in the same way as the Council needs more councilliors, why oh why dont the NHS employ more consultants? everytime i work in a factory i always think 'if only there were more supervisors and less workers, gee that more make live easier'.

This did make me crack up!

I know for a fact when I walk into our committee room, I have never seen a senile old fart, or a ham and pickle sandwich come to think of it.

But I've definitely seen the committee working on the pitch in sun, rain and snow, building stands, decorating the club and numerous other things besides.

Maybe the secret is to have a young-ish committee that is actually pro-active and dynamic, with a genuine interest in the success of the club?

There's an old adage along the lines of ''surround yourself only with people who are going to lift you higher'' - I think herein lies the secret.

Oh, and stop banging on about people having a pop at Basildon. You're fair game for a bit of stick, the same as most of the other clowns in that division. Hi Enrico!

Thats a bit harsh ive spent the last few years trying to win build bridges with our neighbours, League meeting next Wednesday and i'll probably try to ponce a lift off Lee from Bowers in an attempt to forge a closer bond between the two clubs, one day Enrico will get a ryman job and a playing budget and there will be no stopping him.

This is not about having a dig at Basildon United or any individuals. I have seen the hard work that has been put in both at Basildon United and Bowers and Pitsea.

I would be the first to put my hands up and say I do not know the answer.

All I know is that that one day I would love "BASILDON" to have a team higher up the leagues, to be able to compete against our Thurrock, Billericay, Brentwood and Canvey neighbours.

Perhaps a merge, perhaps a brand new team with a ground as close to the Town Centre as possible.

Just something that I do think about a lot and hope one day it will happen.

All I ask is that the team must be called Basildon (something or other)

How about Basildon & Bowers & Pitsea & Hullbridge United Sports Manor FC? That's catchy!

Only team in the area going places (2 promotions in last 2 seasons) is C&K Basildon LADIES FC - what does that say about the area?
