Basildon United Football Club-A Few Myths Exposed

Recommended Posts

As it seems to be 'knock Basildon United' week on this forum probably time i posted a few home truths to establish a few facts and expose a few myths.

The Basildon United Manager DOES NOT maintain the pitch the club pays someone for this service.

The Basildon United Manager DOES NOT wash the kit a local launderette does.

now such rumours are almost being accepted as a universal truth, which begs the question whos spreading them? basically a long list of embittered, resentful individuals who would give their right hand to get a senior job not forgetting officials of a local junior club who spend most of their time on their knees praying for the demise of Basildon United Football Club.

now not for one minute am i saying that the Basildon United job is not very demanding, its not a position i would recommend to anyone but that didnt stop over 30 people applying if you include the late applications which came in this week. All were told what the position entailed and some dropped out, some told me that the couldnt work without a playing budget which is a bit puzzling, like someone applying for a job stacking shelves at poundland turning up for the interview then remarking that they couldnt work for less than £800 a week, obviously they applied for the wrong job.

I appointed the new Manager Paul Larke and fingers crossed it will prove to be the right decision,is Pauls Managerial record superior to all the other candidates? no,on the pitch hes not been highly successful and hes the first to admit that but we are not Barcelona or Chelsea we dont have the luxury of appointing a Manager who will simply be concentrating on 'on the pitch' concerns, any club in our position who did so would soon be facing certain financial ruin.

All football clubs are complex organisations there no 'one size fits all' formula to solve their problems and every club is unique, unlike many clubs in the ESL we dont hire a ground and its facilities, if we turn on our floodlights at 6-30 then a midweek £250 loss becomes a £300 loss, if you play at a Council ground and pay a set fee then by all means turn your lights on at 6-30 and why not leave them for an hour after the match. We have the luxury of our own bar but in times of recession that doesnt compensate us for having to pay unlike many other ESL teams masssive rent, rates and leasehold bills.Despite all this our club does not a penny of debt,we dont rely upon a benefactor to bail us out,we cut costs, work hard and try to keep our heads above the water.

A few months ago i was told by the Directors that the club wasnt able to continue playing Senior Football as they-two working people could no longer continue servicing the losses thankfully the future now looks a bit rosier and we will be continuing as a Senior Club.Do i agree with everything the Directors do? of course not and no doubt some of my actions pi ss them off but like all football clubs we are a family, admittedly a rather dysfunctional, fecked up family who dont particularly get on but a family all the same.

Now if someone knows of a millionaire who wants to invest in a Football Club who can be neither promoted nor relegated and play at a ground under a compulsory purchaser order then please ask them to give me a call.Untill then we will struggle on as best we can.As for certain individuals who spend their time on the knees praying for the clubs downfall feck them not proper football people. Our last Manager even after resigning was still turning up at ground to help us with the pitch for the Sunday League Cup Finals now thats a proper non league person.

get a room you two lol

has always amazed me how a club in a town the size of basildons doesn't have a club playing at a minimum of Ryman Premier.

I would of thought that had this recession not came along, you may well of had someone take over the club who was willing to splash a bit of dosh.

The potential for a town that size is massive, but your location isn't the best.

would cost 100k to get ground up to Ryman Division One North standard whos going to spend that when we can be kicked off the land at a moments notice.Major road works around Gardiners Close means that our location is not really quite the handicap it once was.

no comment Hookey, just annoys me, if people have issues with certain people at the Club then they should direct their resentment towards them and not the Football Club as a whole,i've never been a spokesman nor an apologist for anyone at the club, a football club is more than a few individuals its everyone from the first team manager, youth players right down to the secretary.

i love a bit of banter with Bowers and thats as far as it goes, yes i want to see them get stuffed every week but never had a problem with lee or cookie i know how hard they work and their hearts in the right place, would never want to see the club to fold and have no issues with the club as a whole.thats friendly rivalry and long may it continue.anyway anyone seen the echo today another half page photo of Larkey thats worth 43p of anyones money.
