Guildford City withdraw Arbitration Appeal

Recommended Posts

It is pathetic but that's the way the system is now.

Still, at least Guildford have got the grading now. I think it lasts for three years before the ground has to re-inspected again.

Would still like to see the club in another ground though. Any news on the Slyfield regeneration or is that a no go now? I heard something on the radio today about the local plan for housing etc. in Guildford so maybe the club can get in there and see if they can benefit. NIMBY permitting of course.

GS sorry you couldn't proceed with your appeal, I guessed cost would have been a major factor at this stage.

It's a shame being champions you could not get promoted, so Chertsey get the nod albeit default, but I stress that's not their fault.

Also a shame that the Spectrum remains in the CCL along with the Arena but hey........lol !

So forumites, with Guildford staying in the CCL can they repeat last seasons achievements ? Are they the favourites in your eyes ? Hanworth Villa finished strong last season, so could they be a threat if they can keep the same squad ? Underachievers, so Its been said, Camberley, Badshot Lea and Egham, what could they bring to the party ? Will Molesey prove to be a force next season ? Will there be any surprise team/s in your opinion ? We are still awaiting the outcome of Windsor's ground lease, so no manager or players are currently set to go there altho' I would have thought that once they get the okay, there is a manager already in place with players in mind, so will they challenge next season ?

Now I'm no expert in the CCL but I do not think that any newcomers to the CCL Premier got immediate promotion the following season, not even AFC

Perhaps VP and/or GF can you verify this ?

You may be right NG. It's too late for me to check. I'm sure GF will know.

Certainly going to be another interesting season. They'll be comparing the CCL to the Northern League and Eastern Counties League soon at this rate. Packed full of decent sides.

Very interesting comment VP.

Again correct me if I am wrong, but aren't those 2 leagues mentioned above at the same step as CCL ? I recall Chertsey playing Whitley Bay, Guildford playing Leiston and a few years back didn't Molesey play against Dereham all in the FA Vase ?

So are you saying that the above 2 leagues are stronger than CCL altho' at the same NLS step ? So, we ask, are the teams in those 2 division better than CCL teams ? On previous results I believe Whitley Bay, Leiston and Dereham all beat their CCL opponents ? ............ could they now ?

Does the CCL have too much of a player catchment area whereas the likes of the Eastern league does not so there is a higher selection percentage for better players ?

It will be interesting this season to see what CCL teams have to pick their wits against Northern and Eastern Counties League in the Vase, then we can judge for ourselves !

Maybe next year when a big Northern Moneybags Club has to fly to Guernsey for a Vase game, that will be interesting.Crowds up North are much bigger than C.C.L. I believe, thus creating more revenue to spend on Players.Which equals a better calibre of Player, in my opinion.Money talks in all Football, the C.C.L. is no different,Molesey by their good League finish bucked the trend last year, due in no doubt in having a Good Manager, who knows his stuff.

When we played Dereham the other season it was clear from the finances that their league was stronger than ours. In fairness, the game itself was a tight one, and we ought to have won it in normal time. They had a player who they had rejected an offer of £25,000 for, which showed the difference.

The other thing that stood out on the journey was that there seemed to be very few grounds particularly close to each other, so the catchment area was nothing like ours. Apart from the many CCL sides close to us, there are loads of Ryman clubs within spitting distance of Molesey, and this is a common thread throughout this league. Crowds perhaps have less local options and so the clubs benefit. Someone from Molesey could watch us, walton & hersham, walton casuals, kingstonian, met police, corinthian casuals, hampton & richmond, afc wimbledon - and that's before we throw in all the CCL sides who are within 15-20 minutes from home.

Having said all that, the CCL is now much stronger than it was. If I took my current squad to Dereham on that day, we would almost certainly have come away with a win. They, of course, may also be stronger now.

On this season, there will certainly be some surprise packages - both ways. I reckon a couple of previously fancied sides will bottom out and certain sides may find the receipe for success. As for Windsor, my personal view about shafting people financially and then coming back debt free is that it stinks, but we cannot really lay the blame for that on the current people there. I would say that I am sure that they know full well who the management team will be, have a budget in place to be one of the favourites, have a playing staff pretty much in place and are simply keeping things quiet whilst they rubber stamp their inclusion at the AGM.

It is a shame for Guildford, by the way, as it is a tough league to win and to do so and gain no reward must be gutting for Kevin and his players. It does give Chertsey the chance to progress though, so good luck to them.

Sorry to hear that you've decided to 'withdraw'

Again - It's all a matter of money. Going legal ain't cheap, as M.V.D.C. could well tell you !!

I think the CCL Premier will be very hard to predict this season, and great to watch,Guildford City and Windsor will probably start as favourites, and I can see teams like Camberley and Molesey turning up with stronger squads than they had last season,Sandhurst and Badshot lea are always decent, and who can ignore Hanworth Villa after there lofty finish, not to mention teams like Banstead,Chess/Hook or Epsom, having a shot at a top 6 finish, newly promoted South Park were strong last year , I could go on(who needs ryman football?)
