Margate FC 1996 - 2006

Hi there,

I was just wondering if anyone had any paper clippings or similar from between 1996 - 2006 that they would be kind enough to either email an scan of to me or send me a photocopy through the post.

In particular I would like anything in the newspaper about Chris Kinnear's appointment in 1996, and any coverage of important games within that period.

I would be happy to reimburse people for any postage, or failing that I can offer you a copy of the Fulham first round match in 1997 in its entirety.

thank you

John

John, I don't know if you're aware (apologies if you are) but upstairs at Margate Library they have every edition of both Thanet Times & Isle of Thanet Gazette on micro-film, which is free for the public to browse (though it might be best to book in advance as the readers are quite popular). You can also print from those images at 10p or 20p an A4 sheet(can't remember). If you're well prepared with a list of matches you'd like copy reports of, you can wizz through the list in a couple of hours easily though it's easy to get distracted as you read some of the other articles from the period.

The Staff at the Library are very helpful & will give a quick tutorial on loading & printing from the machines.

It might be worth a visit next time you're in the area. It's a very useful resource - I used it a couple of seasons ago writing an archive feature for Steve Ball in the programme.

Hi Peter,

I thought they might have that at the library. My only problem is with my location (Leicester). Ideally as well there are items that I am after. I'd like to get hold of as many programmes that I don't have from that period, although I do have six folders currently of information and programmes. Will have to purchase as many programmes at club shop when I am next down I think.

Things are starting to crop up as well. I'd like to get a hold of a copy of the West Ham friendly from 1996 which was sold on VHS at the club shop. I would also like to get in contact with Neil Wyatt about an interview he did with Chris Kinnear at the very start of his 1996 reign.

I would think as well that over time I would be looking to gather peoples accounts of certain games and events in the clubs history. I know the website now is back dated to 2001, but its the previous five years I am focussing on at the moment.

Check your PMs, John.

In addition to what Peter said, there is also the national newspaper archive at Colindale in North London if you are ever in the capital. Has just about every paper ever produced in this country on microfilm.

Colin (Pagey) Page has kept a scrap book all the time he has been there, but I dont think he would be able to turn on a computer yet alone scan stuff

But I have a scanner if he wants to give it a go - can scan then email if needed :)

John, I have just counted 58 programmes in the period you are looking for in a bag in a cupboard. If you email or PM me a list of the ones you need I will sort through and see if I have any.

Could bring them to the first game you attend pre-season or league at Hartsdown. You can have them, they have been sitting there for years undisturbed. - Harvey
