An Idiots Guide to Friendlies

Recommended Posts

Its now June and im still receiving an influx of emails from teams lower down the pyramid offering us the chance to HOST them.

Allow me to explain how this works

We are step five you are lower down the pyramid therefore you wont be playing at our ground,if west ham play southend in a friendly does it take place at Roots Hall or Upton Park?. As a step five team we play AWAY to lower teams not at home,im not spending

£40 to have grass cut,

£20 white line marker,

£10 kit wash

£80 Refs Fees

£30 Food

£20 Heating/Water for showers

=£200

to host a team which will bring no supporters, i'll spend it to host Billericay/Canvey Island, now you might be 'saving' your pitch yes so are we for the FA Cup/FA Vase and other senior competitions, i wouldnt be so arrogant as to write to Hornchurch/Concord to ask them to HOST us in a friendly so please no more emails Thanks.

I make you right to be honest.Doesn't make sense for a club to host a club lower than them pre season, unless that club is going to bring something to the table

Although i agree that most times the bigger teams come to the smaller clubs like when Witham hosted Southend Utd (att 725) and Chelmsford City, Witham who were step.4 Ryman 1 North did host Leiston who were step.6, Ridgeons One, so it does happen. Then the following year returned the favour and Witham went up the coast.

Cornard United only have two dates to sort out 30th July, but been offered a game on 28th so may not need this one and Thursday 4th August, thanks to the two ESL sides who have pm'd most recently. Oh and everyone knows step.6 Ridgeons is on a par with step.5 ESL.dance%20(2).gif (joking boys)

Errmmm..........Southend Manor V Runwell Hospital Tuesday Aug 9th 7:45. I've no idea if it's their 1st or 2nd team, but we were approached.....it does happen. I requested that my club pay for the officials on the night but S.M.F.C said they would take care of it. Much respect to S.M.F.C

yeah why not, some of these olympian clubs are well run sides and would do well in the ESL, you're more than welcome to come back to Basildon United for a friendly and i wont take offence if you offer to make a financial contribution towards the officials fees and other expenses.
