Camberley Town looking for U18s management team

Recommended Posts

Yes and Yes. I was at Cove last year but gone to Mole Valley with Eric. Re: the Suburban League BTW there is no way it will split into three regional divisions it just wont have the clubs to make it a success. Teams pulling out include Barton Rovers, Chesham United, Sandhurst Town, Cove, Fleet Town & Whitehawk (think they have already gone). Probably more, they are just the ones I know about.

Ash are entering a team and so are Mole Valley not sure if anyone else is joining.

I agree with NLN, leave the Suburban league for Ryman/Zamaretto 1 and above. I would like to see the CCL Reserve league become a midweek league. I am sure many clubs have had manay situation where they are struggling to get 22 players between the first and reserves on a Saturday. A midweek reserve league would allow clubs to function with a smaller playing squad and means that those who would probably sit on the bench for the first team for a number of weeks would get a 90 minute run out with out missing being involved in a first team game. Of course the problem remains with the teams that do not have lights, but that is supposed to be sorted within 2 years right? I think that is why some teams went a joined the Suburban as they got fed up with playing on park pitches with a rope round them.

As someone that has been involved with reserve and youth sides for the last few years I've seen a few different approaches by clubs to finding the right arrangement between first, reserve and youth teams and the one thing that surprises me is that very few clubs follow the professional model of combining their reserve and youth teams. I know that Chesham United did this a few years ago and they've had great success now integrating and developing younger players into their senior sides. Hampton & Richmond have a very young reserve side that is frequently made up of their academy side and some of those players will undoubtedly move up to the first team at some point in the near future. If the level of players is good enough then by playing against better/older players it should develop them and prepare them for senior football a lot quicker as well as having the benefit of the players being used to playing with each other as they have already played together for a number of years/play together already once a week as a youth team.

There is an obvious financial cost and I think a reserve side is only ever worth running if it is fulfilling it's purpose - to bring players through to the first team or prepare them for senior football. In my opinion, a lot of clubs (not just in the CCL but in a lot of leagues) do not do this and I never understand clubs where first and reserve teams don't interact at all. Would it not be better to put young players out from the start and give them a good amount of time to acclimatize rather than throwing them in for the odd game with pressure added on?

Sunday might be a good day for youth football but is playing midweek not getting younger players used to the demands of senior football - rushing around to a club in the middle of nowhere on a Wednesday evening for 6:30? I don't personally think that the level of most local Sunday leagues is high enough to develop players looking to break into CCL teams either. A lot of clubs now have vet teams that play on Sundays as well which means that pitch availability would probably put an end to this as well. Personally I always thought football was for 3pm on Saturdays!

I have to disagree about it being for Ryman or above. Yes there should be a cut off point but I feel it should be Combined Counties Prem. Yes, my views are prejudiced here, but I feel I have legitamate reasons to back up my argument. Firstly, Combined Counties Prem clubs are capable of competing in this league, for example look at VP very own Cambo Town. They were top for most of the season, ahead of even Blue Square side Boreham Wood for a lenghty period. Three Bridges, a sussex league side, not only compete in the Suburban but are competative in the Prem and stayed up! Tell me that Bridges youngsters have not benefited from the experiance of playing against full time academy boys on a regular basis @ Woking, AFC Wimbledon, Eastleigh etc. It is beneficial for these teams to be in the Suburban.

There is an argument to the league being trimmed down a tiny bit, maybe have leagues of 16, but you still need a full calender to make it worth while and allow players to develop. This is happening through natural wasteage this year I believe but if not then the teams in coco 1 and suessex2 should probably rejoin their 1st teams reserve league. Not quite sure what benefit there was to the likes of Oakwood this season or to the teams that played them.

I hate it when clubs disband their reserve sides just to fund the budget for the first team. Not saying this is the case at Cove but i've seen it done many times before and in some cases it kills the club and you end up some nights with 5 at training. Duncs did you consider joining the CCL reserve division? Much cheaper.Just from a personal opinion if it was down to me i'd make it standard for all CCL clubs to have a reserve side in the division. Yes the standard has dropped but if all teams came back in that jumped to the suburban then it would soon rise again. Leave Suburban for step 4 and above only.

Your right NLN this is not the case at Cove, its not up to me which league anyone plays in but I think considering the CCL reserve division would have been a better option and Luke good luck to you and Eric at Mole Valley mate ;)

simple Kroons we don't have the money for a reserve side we were going to drop it last season but Eric funded them but that is not how things could continue, this is what i mean when I say to posters on here success sometimes is merely keeping the club afloat and in the CCL.

SO ALL THIS HYPE ABOUT COVE'S NEW SPONSORSHIP WITH POTENTIAL 3G PITCH/ES ....BLAH, BLAH, BLAH IS ALL NONSENSE THEN I PRESUME ........LOL !!!

KROONZZZZ NO REPLY FROM DUNCS OR COME TO THAT JJ ? IS IT THAT THERE WAS NO NEW SPONSOR OR THAT THEY HAVE PULLED OUT, THATS WHY COVE CANNOT AFFORD A RESERVE TEAM ? INTERESTING ...........

All of the posts I have read on this topic have been very good and most of you have the well being and developement of the younger players at heart, which I applaud you all for, but what you all have to remember at the end of the day is that football always has and always will be about opinions, what we have to all remember is that at the end of the day are they good enough and often when given a chance they are not and thats the way football is,the choice lies with all the respective 1st team managers and his word is final and should be good enough,as I was once told by a manager the proffesional clubs very rarely miss the good ones and we have to work with what is left by them.

The other model that you could follow is Bisley's from a few years back that they tried for a season.. I'm sure Loop remembers - the whole reserve team were either old or fat and barely anyone had a hope of getting in the first team but each one to a man was a great drinker and the bar profits soared (as did the Fox)

From my experience NLN isn't that why clubs have a Vets team .......!!!
