People always say that about him, but he's also had midfielders like Okotcha and Djorkaeff playing under him. I'm happy with this, he'll know what the fans expect and will add the passion we have sorely lacked this year. Hopefully the deadwood will be on the way as well. Boa morte, Upson, Illunga etc.

Not sure I am too happy. Do we really want to go straght back up. Clear the deadwood and bring in some of the academy guys to get them exposure and in a couple of years we can go back up stronger and more financially secure

It was clear from the games I was able to see that there was a lack of passion and desire, both on and off the pitch. Allardyce does have a reputation for being more pragmatic, but we do need to get back up as soon as possible. With the potential new stadium kicking in and the parachute money in place for two years, we must grab the chance to get into the PL. Once you become an established Championship side it is difficult to persuade many players that you are anything but that. It also means that, if we get back up, we will not have the concern over our manager being Premiership stuff, as he has done it. He will probably also mix things up, with some good football added to some "horses for courses" stuff. How many times did Mr Grant come out with things like "we are playing well - we were unlucky - I am happy with my players - blah, blah, blah" Blackburn at home he did bugger all on the sidelines at 0-1, then Steve lomas jumps out and tells a few lads some home truths, and we get back on terms and then Robbie "where's the goal" Keane mises an absolute sitter at the death. Screaming and shouting is not the total answer, but some of the players last year needed a rocket up their preverbials on many occasions. He is probably not my ideal choice but, with the reputation our board have, to get someone of his stature at the club is probably better than we could have expected. However, if Boa Morte gets a shirt number - sack the manager!

But if an out of contract Mr Boa Morte came wandering down Walton Road and thought "Oh, look, a football club! I wonder if they will let me play for them?", would you sign him up or tell him to beggar off somewhere else?

By the way, Steve, what is the latest on MFC's ground selling and debt clearing plan?

If he does come down I would do the same as with most and ask if he is willing to sign up for a long hard season and work his socks off week in week out. He'd get some game time in our friendlies and we would see if he was better than our existing midfield players - which I now doubt - so stick him in the reserves and see what his attitude is like. Then, when he came to ask why he was wasting his time doing nothing in our reserves, I would say exactly what he did every time I saw him in a West Ham shirt - sweet FA! I already had Scholes on the blower saying he is dead keen to be part of our squad, then tells me his coaching role at Man U will stop him training on Thursday nights, so we sent him on his bike as well. Just about to reply to Berbatov, but he can be an awkward bugger at times, so we will continue to try and get Ackerman fit for the start of the season.

The other point goes beyond my function, but our website covers this if you want to read it. We start,. like most, on 28th June and everything will be as normal. As you know, I started this management role some 20 years ago at Egham doing the reserves/youth and nothing changes, obstacles to overcome on a regular basis but for some reason you just keep doing it - oh, yes, that's why - I bloody enjoy it!

And long may you continue. Mark Hughes has resigned from Fulham so there could be some spare players knocking about. I don't think he will be looking to take over at Walton Road or the Runnymede Stadium any time soon, though. As for your comments about LBM's attitude, I have no doubt you are right.
