To be fair to Sonner he can out jump almost any defenders (however tall) and win the ball. He has done it all season!!!

How many goals has Sean Sonner scored with his head?

Yes,he has improved his game at leaping up against a defender and getting some vital flick on's with his head. No mean feat given the size of him but he isn't a well fitting partner for Burnell IMO and is being dragged out of position too often and is less effective with his own scoring ability. He actually scored more last season than I thought he would, fair play to him, but I still believe that both Burnell and Sonner would come into their own, if we didn't keep putting in aimless crosses in the air,in the box to them, which 9 times out of 10 ,the opposition's defence get away.

Although a bit of a headcase,I thought Dwain Clarke, the ex Aldershot player from the season before the last one, used to put in the best crosses,as he would vary how he crossed and was brilliant at putting low, fierce drives across the penalty area. These are the ones that Burnell and Sonner need if they play up front together.

High balls are just not their forte'.

I believe a footballing target man would be a great asset to the current team, someone who can hold the ball up and won't be bullied off the ball by big defenders. Also the other side's defence will have to keep an eye on our target man at set pieces/corners and the like, thus creating space and would be what we've been missing,a clean headerer of the ball. Thus more goals from the head.

Sonner has scored twice as many goals this season than he did last season.

And if you want to replace him with a big tall striker then fair enough but it will be extremly hard to find a big tall striker who will do any where near as much hard work as Sonner, and Burnell wont do that much hard work because he isnt a good defender he is a goal poacher, give hime an oppurtunity and he will take it. If there isnt someone like sonner doing the hard work then Burnell wont get as many opportunities.

Also Sonner does so much work running back and helping the midfeild and defence, the number of brilliant tackles he has made in our defensive third is very high unlike any other striker.

We dont necesserily need a tall striker (though don't get me wrong it would be nice to have one, as long as they are not in the team just because of that one reason).

we have got to two consecutive play offs without one and look at Barcelona (I know we are not them but still) they are arguably the best team in europe and their tallest striker if 5 FOOT 7 INCHES!!!

If you can find someone who is tall but will work hard and can play football then sign him up, but he will be hard to find

Sounds to me like you just described Andy Deaner! How fit is he these days?!

I think 3spirit is also talking about a big player who has some pace and skill and not just a big lump

Exactly right,Reading Rebel. Why do we need strikers who play as midfielders, or defenders come to that. I don't mind strikers closing down the opposition defence, when they come out with the ball but I personally think we should make the players play as their title suggests. That way it's easier to keep some strategy, shape and player resposibility rather than passing the buck when things go wrong .

No,you're wrong,Ian, about me describing Andrew Deaner. Although,I would say he always got unfair stick from the fickle Slough crowd, due to him being the Chairman's son and his lack of goals/footballing skills. He reminds me of how some Slough fans treat Simon Martin.None of them seem to see or notice the difficulty defenders have coping with the bigger, more robust strikers and nobody can level at them having no lack of effort.

The other option is to go with pure pace up front, someone like a Lloyd Owusu or Marcus Richardson or Ansil Bushay type.Someone who can go by a defender by speed and skill. This scares the hell out of all defences.Something we definitely haven't got currently in our team.

Yes, like most fans we are fickle. We have had some good forwards at Slough over the years e.g. Ian Hodges, Tony Boot, LLoyd Owusu, Gary Abbot, etc and I think we know a good forward when we see one. We've also had some not so good ones who, in the main, will put in the effort but are let down by their other attributes. I think Andrew Deaner is a prime example of this. A battering ram of a forward who's effort you could not fault and very occasionally scored some good goals. A bit unfair to say he got stick because he was the Chairman's son because i think most Slough fans wouldn't give a jot who's son he was if he did the business on the pitch.

Speaking of Ian Hodges IMO what a combination that would be with him alongside Danny Burnell.

Funny enough,Reading Rebel,I was thinking the same about Ian Hodges.Tony Boot wasn't too dissimiliar to Danny Burnell. Both extremely good at finding the back of the net but not always the hardest of workers and both liking a moan.Ian Hodges was a perfect foil for Tony Boot and I'm sure could do a job with Danny Burnell.

Now that Alan Devonshire has left Hampton and Richmond to go to the manager's job at Braintree and the fact that Ian Hodges is not getting any younger,Hodges may be looking for a new challenge and a less demanding league than the Conference South. Mind you it is 2 levels lower. I sometimes forget how low Slough now play at.

Still, perhaps Roy Merryweather/Steve Bateman should make some enquiries!

Does anyone know where is Anthony Howard is playing now?

A forward with out and out pace to go past defenders? Yash Romeo anyone??

I thought and continue to think that we were wrong to let Yash go. His goals for game ratio was superb and not only that he did it in one of the poorest Rebels teams for many years.

I guess what you are trying to say is "Wherefore art thou, Romeo?". I think someone may have beaten you to it.

Still running up the inside right channel at Wexham Park violently waving his hand to get the winger's attention.

Ryan Bird and Will Dunlop have apparently signed new contracts at Burnham according to Express reporter Charles Watts via twitter.

OK, we don't know their circumstances but I would like to know why they would want to stay at a club that has probably reached it's pinnacle in the football pyramid (unless a rich benefactor comes along and wants to chuck money at a club with no prospect of a return on his money) and will probably float around in mid-table next season getting nowhere?

looking at Slough Observer it looks like our first signing will hopefully be 6ft 6ins centre defender Alex Brown who played for Walton Casuals last season in Ryman Div 1 South. apparently a no nonsence defender

Bateman mentions that the majority of last seasons squad will hopefully stay

also mentions he is looking at ideally adding 2 defenders, 1 midfielder and 1 striker

A very good player who we tried to sign around the time we got Woozley

His partnering centre back at walton casuals is also a former rebel in Luke Evans

Mark44, just wondered how you know that he is a 'very good player'.
