Come on people, can we stop treating Cookham Rebel like an idiot for daring to post a rumour on an internet messageboard? He has not said "HOT OFF THE PRESS - BATEMAN CONFIRMS IT - THESE PEOPLE WILL SIGN!" now has he? He has only said that he has heard something (from who and on what authority however we can only guess).

Having said that, I did hear a vague rumour that the world was going to end yesterday.

We won't know until pre-season starts who's training with us and who's not, and we won;t know until the season proper starts who is signing and who isn;t. End of story.

Thank you Nathan, this is a discussion forum after all, and I'm only saying what I have been told by 3 of my mates who actually play for the club.... Nothing is confirmed in terms of signings but certain potential new signings have confirmed they will be at the first pre-season training session... Mind you, Ian Brown and Jon Stevenson did this a couple of years ago and went back on their word!!!

I concur with Cookham Rebel,Reading Rebel and Nathan. It's nice to get a bit of gossip and those players mentioned are certainly not beyond the realms of possibility and all of them quality. If we did get those players and another quality central midfielder.I would back us to win the league. One can only dream.......

Adam Martin has apparently committed to us for next season, again though, things can change!!!

Oh I hope the bit about Richard Hayward is true.

Only with everyone telling Phil how well he played in goal at the supporters match at Rugby, I think he is getting ideas above his station!!!

God help us !

Can't see is affording Dillon. Wasn't he the guy arlesey got after being released by Nuneaton who couldn't afford him

He was not released by Nuneaton because they could not afford him but his own choice due travelling distance and wanting regular football.

what is your source?

I am friends with some of the players Mark44...

I would love to see us start the season with Hayward, Sweeney, Dunlop, Woozely, Murphy, Sinclair, Coyne, Martin, Herron, Bird, Burnell as out starting 11....

No room for Sean Sonner, Stuart Swift or Chris Dillon (if he joins us) in your starting 11 Cookham?.

we can but dream that we could start the season with new players coming in that are as good as that

no idea how likely it is we get any of them but if we had the team Cookham Rebel suggests i must say a league title contender we would be

in my eyes we need at least 3 or 4 players who are proven quality and maybe 1 or 2 younger players brought in perhaps from the youth team as pace is something we have lacked

I just think Sonner is to similar to Burnell and would rather a big target man like Ryan Bird.... Well, Swift or Herron, not much between them, Swift gives more defensively and his set pieces whereas Herron is more of a flair player.... I've never seen Dillon play, so I've gone with Burnell!!!

If its true that he wasnt on mega bucks Reading then he would be an ideal signing. However, with Burnell, Sonner and Mendy do we really need Bird and Dillon?

Would love to see Hayward here and Dunlop also as we need someone decent to replace Seeby.

Also if Martin is staying then I feel we have a good chance of winning this league.

I agree that Abbey, Sonner and Burnell are all to simiilar. Ideally I would like to keep all of them, but if one of them has to make way for a big target striker, then so be it.

Personally, I'm not too fussed about Richard Hayward. If he's going to jump ship if we go up (like he has done with Waltham Abbey and Chesham United, and may do for Arlesey Town), I'd prefer someone who will show a little more loyalty, regardless of what league we're in. Besides, if we get our defence sorted out, I see no reason why Bullivant or Fanner cannot do a job for us.

With those players I'd play 3-5-2 of Hayward, Sweeney,Dunlop,Woozley-defence .right wing back-Sinclair,left wing back Murphy, midfield three of a new holding midfield player,Logie and Adam Martin ,with Burnell and Bird or Dillon upfront.

I know I'm going to be shot down in flames for saying this but I would release Paul Coyne and Sean Sonner[therefore balancing the books] as imo both are disruptive to team morale/spirit for my liking. I'd keep Stuart Swift,Chris Herron,Sam Bateman,Simon Martin,Ben Porter,Steve Perkins[who I hope will be the coach this year] and Charlie Fanner as back up.

I have to disagree,Nathan.Richard Hayward would make a massive difference to our defence. He's proved his value by being in all the teams promoted. That can't be a co-incidence. Charlie Fanner would learn loads from him and he would be a excellent understudy for Hayward .

Rob Bullivant I'm afraid, was a wash-out last year.I think he looked overweight and hadn't fully recovered from his previous injury lay off, either physically or mentally, from his time with Windsor. I think Bullivant will improve with time but we need to get out of this division by winning it this year and not by those darn play-offs! Bullivant's too iffy for this challenge.

Interesting that Mendy is mentioned. I thought in that Beaconsfield game he started well but seem to lose interest, whereas the other lad Mohammed had a shaky start but got better as it went on. Mendy can clearly score goals, but I feel he needs to do some more next season as a squad player to prove he has got what it takes mentally.

My main thought on the League allocations is that it is now plain that whilst Slough are at this level and we have no more pyramid major shake ups, then Southern Central is where we shall remain. The nearest team in S&W is Didcot and the nearest team in Ryman North is probably Enfield Town. Geographically there's a lot of clubs between us and both of them so there is no chance of us switching divisions for the foreseeable future.

Hopefully we'll be promoted soon, but if not at least we'll be able to build up some rivalry and history with the other Central clubs.

Feel very sorry for Guildford City - another victim of crazy ground grading rules. I hope their arbitration appeal is successful.

Agree with your statement,Mr Rebel, about 1 or 2 youngsters to add pace to our team for certain games. That is something we have lacked.Look at the difference Mo Shariff made to the team, the previous year.I know players of Mo Shariff's calibre don't come around often, but just having a couple of quick youngsters willing to do the chasing, shutting down and the donkey work can make a huge difference thus making space and time for our old heads to play to their strengths/skills ie. Sinclair,Herron.Logie etc.

Not going to shoot you down 3spirit as this is a discussion forum and everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, there is no chance that Bateman will allow Coyne or Sonner to leave and I would have to agree with him, the pair of them are the jokers amongst the squad and are loved by all the players and management, I don't think they are disruptive. The biggest culprits for moaning and dissent are Burnell and Swift, as said in a previous thread, as soon as

Bateman introduced the booked for dissent=subbed rule, Coyne behaviour on the pitch was exemplary, he is only 25 and believe me, he could be the player that takes us back into the Conference South or even the Conference, I believe he is that good and far too good for the level he is at. One thing though, and I may get shot down in flames here, but if Coyne is played in central midfield, in my opinion he has to be partnered by a fully fit Shaun Byrne. When they played together in the centre last season we produced our best performances.

I think that the 3-5-2 suggestion works perfectly as murphy likes to get forward. It would also allow us the flair from midfield from Adam Martin and Coyne and the defence would be covered by Logie/Byrne

It all depends on Sweeney staying though
