I hear Ramsgate have stolen the march again and, are to run a reserve side in the Kent league and a under 21 in the suburban league. Well done Ramsgate, youth is the correct policy.

Great to see a lot of our ex youngsters(know rams 1st teamers Aaron Beech, Paul Axon ect) + some of our present 1st team and reserves playing together on the 5's last night.

A saddened

Blueblood.

All had their chance, proved they weren't good enough at this level. Hence, they dropped down a level. There's no point playing youngsters in the first team just for the sake of it; against Ryman Premier players, they'd just get beaten 4-0 every week, which would do them no good at all. Keep the youngsters who really shine: Robinson, for instance.

You raise a good point again blueblood , re the youngsters are the way forward as I believe they proved their worth in the second half of Ramsgates season. It's great for Curtis that he has turned the corner and is now also proving his worth. It goes without saying that these young players need to be given time to progress, after all a few of those given the opportunity a couple of seasons ago to play in Margate first team are a couple of years younger than Curtis and I remember at that time that he too was receiving negative postings on here . So it's time we all get behind these young local lads and give them all our support no matter what colour shirt they pull on !

The problem with a lot of the young lads is dedication, they find, girls and pubs, they also think they are better than they really are because some of the Dads tell them they are, and expect to walk into the first team, at Margate this will not happen, why, because all the managers we have had come from up the line where there are better players. However, we should not give up on youth, but they must have better attitudes and more desire to play at a higher level. Can this be achieved by reviewing the way the coaching system works. i.e. should we try and get in some ex pros who live in the area, how about a fitness coach, and what about making them work a bit for the club. Make the boys more proffesional, dress code "etc"

I fear regarding some of your comments Derek that the youth/s in question would probably stick two fingers at the dress code and why wouldnt they be interested in girls and pubs, dont get me wrong Im all for putting 9 oclock curfews and demanding that they tow the line for disciplinary reasons but trying to militarise them will send them running IMO.

You are correct Derek, Dedication is and will always be a problem. We are human, not machines. Some will drop away. How many kids do we know who have go to big clubs and disappear, How many men do we know who, will say to us at the ground, or in the pub, or on the park bench with a can of carlsberg extra in their hands " I could have made it". Loads, you will always have them. If having the majority drop by the way side we pick up Gems like CR then it makes it worth while. Out off last seasons bunch I would say( and I will not name them) perhaps 7 ( a few you may not have seen) have a chance if, everything falls into place.

A group of the youngsters are taking it seriously this summer break, taking advantage of the deal negotiated by Cliff Egan and Marshaled by reserve assistant Malcolm Potter, with a local gym. These lads are using the facilities on a regular basis, in one case using it 4 times a week, running between 20 and 30 miles a week. At the same time using the weights to increase his bulk.

One of the lads as put himself through a series of trials with a pro club. They started with 2,000 hopefuls before he made the final 22. One lesson he learned at Orient and a lesson the lads learned at Bolton earlier in the year was that the coaching they get at the academy is on par.

You are also correct that a lot of the problems with some kids is over enthusiastic parents. I was lambasted personally over a match report i wrote. As parents we've all been there. No matter how hard we try it is very difficult to keep our mouths closed. A while ago when my boy was at Thanet Colts we the parents had to sign a FA instigated declaration that we would refrain from commenting on the games while in progress or criticise the ref's. Where as that gone.

As for dress code they have to go to games in their official track suits and are disciplined if they do not do so. The majority of last years reserve set up train Monday Tuesday Game Wednesday, train Thursday morning at the academy, and Thursday evening at the club as well as use the Gym facilities as a team on a Tuesday night during the season. They do not train Saturday's if they have a game Saturday.

Quite a few of the boys do coaching. 2 as a living. A fair number have better coaching badges than some of the managers we have had in the past. One youngster as even gone over to the black side refereeing over in the Dover / Deal area.

I wonder what CK's role will be in this.

is it the case that recent managers have not given sufficient encouragement/respect (that does not mean promoting /playing them undeservedly ).?

I still await an official indication from MFC as to Ck's role as CLUB manager ,and hoiw it is intended for that role to be slightly diffferent from previous (including himself )managers-if at all apart from name.

Apart from name-will his job description mean he has to put a bit more time aside to work with the coaches of the reserve/academy/youth sides?

will it make a difference anyway ?
