Hornchurch Hammers?

with regards to the cons,

Yes it has been succesful, but only because we ended up going into the ESL

the size of our club at the time we was hardly not going to win that league.

Since then we have enjoyed more notable success which was far from easy but yet again, had the club not gone bust then we would still be called Hornchurch FC and i doubt the likes of Jim Bradshaw,Harry et al would really want the name AFC Hornchurch instead of Hornchurch FC

As for Merchandise, not a problem, you just order enough for this season and change the name at the end of the season when stock is low or finished.

to be honest merchandise at a club our side has a minimal effect on the club.

You draw to a close mid season, lets face it,alot of our stuff has urchins on it.

Ok the club shirts have AFC Hornchurch on them but these change most seasons anyhow.

As for things like scarfs, they will become momentos of a bygone age.

i always think of AFC Hornchurch as a temporary name and that Hornchurch FC as the real name of the club (unless someone mentions Upminster Wanderers again).

I'd like to change back to be honest.

I've only ever known the club as AFC so it may cloud my judgement.

I think we should look to the future and move on from the past.

I have done so in my personal life. I've still got the fond memories however..

The people behind the club are trying to move us forward.

May be a bit dis-respectful to their efforts to keep looking back.

I understand the sentiments about Hornchurch FC, but that's not the club's original name.

Would Arsenal go back to Woolwich Arsenal or Man U to Newton Heath?

Didnt the Orient go back to being called Leyton Orient, Collier Row and Romford went back to being called Romford FC.

My idea, and I imagine so was Old Biscuits, was to market Hornchurch/Romford Hammers as a brand new club to attract disgruntled supporters from the bigger club.

I do understand where you're coming from, I really do in terms of finances. It is a little bit like selling out though, like playing at the JJB or Emirates stadiums. It is difficult times though.

I absolutely hate the Name AFC Hornchurch,it reminds me of the fact that we went bust.

I refer to us as AFC Hornchurch on here but to be honest i just call us Hornchurch.

I don't feel it undermines anyone, the same people would still be in control after a name change.

For me it would be the last part of the jigsaw into getting this club back to what it should of been, yes we have been succesful but we were succesful because we went bust.

The titles we won while under AFC Hornchurch would remain fondly in the memory but from 1940 whatever we were called Hornchurch FC and thats how the majority of the local population still refer to us,if anything it would close the dark couple of years when we went bust.

IMO football is a social thing where you go and watch your favorite team, sit, stand and drink with the same people, and hopefully have a good time. I don't really understand what difference a name makes, and I would be just as happy watching the Romford Urchins or Havering United, as I am watching Romford, or was watching CR & Romford, and if changing the name helps make the club more successful, all the better.

well i wouldn't,some of us grew up watching Hornchurch Fc.The only reason the name changed is because of mismanagement of the club and it was forced to change its name.

The club in essence is the same so after a period of i believe 3 years the club could change it back.

Are you saying that if someone offered to put huge amounts of money into your club on condition it changes its name to Hornchurch Hammers, or the Romford Urchins you would not want to know?

Absolutely not.

And i can say that 100%

We have had someone come in,promise us Football league Status and that dissapeared down the swanny.

I support Hornchurch FC and always have done.

I support AFC Hornchurch because thats the name the new club was given but make no mistake, this club is heart and soul Hornchurch FC and thats why we should go back to that name, forget the past and carry on like we are and always were before we were promised the earth,a small non league club who one day would like to progress up the leagues by hard work and effort not shed loads of money that can risk the club going bust.

Romford had a moneyman come in, changed our name to CR&Romford and I don't remember any complaints at the time, or even when he buggered off as we had the time of our lives. Dagenham are now D&R and are living the dream. Canvey and Grays both had money men come in and both got to Wembley, twice.

If you hear of a money man that wants to pump cash into a football club don't forget to point him in our direction.

will do and when you are crying into your spilt milk once he has shafted your club you won't get too much sympathy from us i am afraid.

To be honest Rob, I would much sooner have four or five great years and a possible trip to Wembley, courtesy of a money man, than spend the next twenty years muddling along in RLN. If it all goes tits up you can always start again as both our clubs have already done.

But I don't want to keep starting over and over again.I would prefer to see hard work, good coaching and a tight nit fans associated club than that

And in years to come you can bore your grandkids to death with tales of the good times fifty years ago just like we do. I prefer a bit of excitement now, however short it might be.
