Kevin Barry - 1970's Margate striker

Just found out that Kevin passed away last week. He scored 37 goals in 100 appearances for Margate spanning the 71/72 to 73/74 seasons and wore the number nine shirt in the side that lost 6-0 to Spurs in January 1973.

A nice article about Kevin

I never knew he was Gareth Barry's uncle until I read that.

Very sad indeed - yet another of the great 1973 cup team now playing for us upstairs.

He was part of the great forward line that included Bruce Walker (he of the hammer shot) & Barry Brown (he of the Jason King haircut).

Great days, great players, RIP Kevin.

Once saw Bruce break the crossbar with one of his shots.

Jeff, it's on occasions like these that we really miss your excellent site. Can you please bring it back?

Kevin Barry was one of my favourites Margate players, and he should and could have been a true legend but wasn't with us long enough. The scorer of many great goals but he missed a sitter against Hereford in that SL Cup semi-final in 1972.
