Newport Pagnell Town Reserves v MK Wanderers

A report on this thriller yesterday:

 

11:00 @ Willen Road - outer pitch

Newport Pagnell Town Res. 5 MK Wanderers 5 att.19

 

Missed the first hour of this as it was advertised as a 12:00 kick off, so close by I didn't bother to check. There was a bikers show going on outside also. This was played on a back pitch, generally I don't count pitch 2's as ticks which is just as well. Missed five of the goals but what little I did see was great entertainment.

Sun Postal Sports 0-4 St Margaretsbury 0-1 HT

Goals: 6, 60, 84, 89

No Admission, No Programme.

 

A visit to the leafy suburbs of North Watford yesterday saw the Spartan South Midlands Premier outfit see off their Division One counterparts. The game was played on an adjacent pitch to the regular one which technically, by my silly rules, means I can't 'tick' this ground off!

 

On entering the club house I asked about any Admission and was told: "We only collar you for league games"!!

 

The game itself wasn't too bad. There was a competitive edge between the sides although it was 'bury who looked the more composed of the two. Opening the scoring on 6 minutes with a half volley they generally controlled the game and it took a good 20 minutes for Sports to test the visiting keeper.

The second half was more even a but a goalkeeping mistake allowed a St Margaretsbury winger to squeeze in a second on the hour. Two goals in the last 10 minutes gave the score a rather emphatic if, perhaps, unfair look to it.

 

My favourite quote of the day goes to a St Margaretsbury sub who after shanking a pass wide of a team-mate whilst warming up commented: "It always takes me a few weeks of a new season before I can kick a ball properly again."

So pro clubs academies are just make shift are they? I don't credit you with the intelligence some do you're not on a wind up you are f¥cking retarded.

 

 

How do you define makeshift Rhodes?

Something unprepared, inefficient, put together hurriedly and of many different components.

That sounds just like an academy of professionals, drilled, trained, disciplined and talented.

Some Academies are better than others but I have yet to come across any that are 'makeshift'. Maybe Rhodes seems to know more about these set-ups than me or others on this forum.

 

Can Rhodes name these 'makeshift' Academies?

 

Can Rhodes tell us which Academies he has visited, if any, and to what level he has found them to be?

 

We can then compare notes on any that we have both visited.

A brief report on this one:

 

Biggleswade United(1) 2 v 1 (0) Wootton Blue Cross (3pm)

This game played at Clifton FC and not Shuttleworth College

 

No admission or programmes!

 

An interesting Saturday with good weather and good company enabled me to visit three new venues in close proximity. Penalties seemed to be the "in" thing in these matches with no fewer than seven awarded, of which three were saved.

 

Then just to complete the day a drive down to Hoddesdon to watch the speedway at Rye House.

I watched the game marlow were 2nd best for most of the game it was 1-1 with 20 mins to go and marlow got a poor penalty decision making it 2-1 then bought on 5 new players and got the 3rd on the 90 min amersham denied a good pently decision turned down marlow not very good.
