Guernsey F.C.

Great day out a new experience and part of history Smudge

Dont you mean 2 days out,and a very expensive experience at that,as for History that only applies after a period of time.and by then Guernsey F.C. will of flown the C.C.L. Nest in search of better things, they are a NATIONAL SIDE after all.Always like a 3 course meal when I travel.

Starters.... £5.95

Main... Fillet Steak £24

Sweet... £4.95

Thats before you have a drink, remember Guernsey is a Tourist destination with prices to match. Are their any Maccy D's,K.F.C.'s,Can see a lot of hungry Players on the flight back, their not known for having large sums of cash on them,or even spending it at their Home Clubs.SO WHY WOULD THINGS CHANGE.

Guernsey Guru,no one takes a blind bit of notice of what I say on here,so the Island games are more important in your Football World than striking up a relationship with C.C.L. Clubs by offering or taking the chance of a Pre-Season Friendly. This in my opinion would of served 2 purposes, firstly to find any snags that need to be ironed out, before the Season starts, secondly build a bond.It is mentioned in your press that around 40 Players will be used by you,and as your Squad for the Island Games is 18 Players, that leaves a surplus of 22.Could you not of used these Players. You see I look at the larger picture, when the offer looks to good, it usually is,and Guernsey F.C. have missed a big P.R. Opportunity.Reading the Guernsey Press tells me all I want to know about Guernsey,Dear Food,Poor roads,Broken down Buses, and No Sunday Shopping, unlike what many believe will be a trip of a lifetime.just a stepping stone to better things for you,on your way up the ladder. But you are lucky as I have said 'NO ONE TAKES ANY NOTICE OF ME'

Smudge I cant believe you are so naive. The Island Games are a very important date in all of the Commonwealth Islands' diaries and the standard of the sport at them will provide GFC with the right preparation for the new football season. In our football world we do not devalue opportunities like the Island Games or the CCL and we do not put one before the other as they are both means to the same end. We will have a pool of around 40 to 45 players available for GFC but we only have one Manager and one set of coaching staff and when we enter anything we do not disrespect that competition by playing half a team. What would we learn and lets face it everything we do in football costs us a fortune. As we meet teams/individuals in the CCL we will build bonds.

Some of your comments are not even worth answering or contemplating and for someone who has so many bad comments about Guernsey, your knowledge of the Guernsey Press is a little disturbing - are you just looking for bad news to post on here? Please get a job. Your team will spend about 6-7 hours in Guernsey on the day you play GFC, if you have withdrawal symptoms from Mcdonalds, KFC or any other fast food outlet then I suggest you have further major problems. Not only will your trip be paid but your food will be paid for so you can enjoy fillet steak at our expense, Smudge you are not worth continuing this conversation with - Good Night

Guernsey Guru,a very intellectual insight into how you see things, you think you are doing the C.C.L. Clubs a favour by joining their League.Well you are not,in fact the boot is on the other foot.As for spending 7 hrs in Guernsey,so teams will be arriving at 12pm and leaving at 7 pm,hardly an overnight stay,so no Hotels will be needed,or is this the plan for the future.Which in today's world is possible,it is the Legacy that you will leave other Clubs that bothers me,when you depart the C.C.L.No more FREE FLIGHTS,FREE FOOD,What happens then?Like it or Lump it comes to mind. You have your foot on the Ladder. As for bad press maybe you should contact the Guernsey Press for all their negative remarks they print, even a well written piece about how your elevation to Non League Football will affect local grassroots Football,in other words taking the bread out of their mouths.Sorry if you find me annoying and yes I have changed my opinion about Guernsey's elevation to Non League Football, can see no advantage long term to English Football.

Hi Guru

Having spoken to all our players management and commitee everyone is fully behind your bid to join the league and looking forward to the two games. Smudge your about as consistent as Carlton Cole when it comes to your views on Guernsey . My advice is tto shift some more copies of Big Issue, save some pennies and come out there for a weekend

Thanks NLN, you will have a great day out in Guernsey. Smudge accuses me of only looking at it from GFC perspective but what about if Guernsey is not good enough for your level? There is not only and up side to this venture, there could also be a down side, we just dont know which way it will fall for GFC.

I am not sure what kind of advantage GFC is supposed to provide the bigger picture of English football, they are just trying to improve. I thought that all clubs would be trying to do that?

Hi Donkey and welcome to the Pyramid...

Do you guys play at the Track still? Brings back fond memories for me,

getting drunk in the Thomas de la Rue among others!

I used to live in Le Bouet and often drank in Ollie Reed's pub of choice in said road..

Jamaica Inn? Been a long time..

Hi there - GFC will play at Footes Lane but the Track and other pitches will be available if for any reason Footes Lane is put off. How long ago did you live in Guernsey?

Back in 1975 when the pubs shut on Sundays and the disco at the OGH closed at 11.45!!

Then on to the Cellar Bar(?). Thank goodness for Oxford Bags...perfect for tying a bottle

of voddy to ones' leg and the fact the place was normally in darkness and opened until 2am..

I worked out there for a brewery.... driver's mate.

Guernsey Guru, just wanted to reassure you that the all of the people involved with the CCL that I have spoken to think its great that Guernsey will be coming into the league. Great experience for the players of CCL clubs who will be travelling to the island and not one person I have spoken to has raised any concerns about costs involved etc... and personally I can live without a KFC or McDonalds for a day, it wouldn't stop me travelling. Good luck with everything and everybody at Farnham is looking forward to flying over and playing you at some point in the coming seasons.

Anyway, if people think Guernsey will win Div 1 next year then Smudge won't need to worry about all the expenses for the next ten years or so! So let's wish Guernsey well! I did hear that's why Chobham, FNE and Hates Gate pulled out though. That's got to be Guernsey's fault too right? Silly Guernsey!

HOW CAN GUERNSEY BE THE REASON WHEN THEY HAVE NOT YET BEEN OFFICIALLY ACCEPTED INTO THE CCL ?

CHOBHAM, FNE & HAYES GATE ALL STRUGGLED TO GET TEAMS OUT DURING THE SEASON, THATS THE TELL TELL STORY........... A DIVISION TOO HIGH FOR THEM.... HG & FNE ONE SEASON THEN GONE !

It will be quicker for most clubs getting to Gurnsey that Croydon anyway

Far better than stuck at Five-Ways Corner ot the Coulsdon cross-roads for Gawd knows how long !
