If I remember correctly wasn't it on the left just past the Brown Jug pub as you headed towards Ramsgate. That stretch of road now bypassed by the relatively new stretch where the Nissan Garage is now (which may well be where the site of the club used to be.

Gary will know for sure. I'll also check it out with John Parker (him being a jazz musician himself.

Sounds about right AB. I have a sneaking feeling that there might have been an indoor swimming pool there as well but not too sure.

Anyone remember a coffe bar in Sandwich called The Trapezium? Great gig venue.

I did not think about that side. There is a big white (and surprisingly) derelict house by there that may have been a school at some point, but everything else seems fairly recent.

On the subject of venues, has anybody else seen the site "Underground Kent"? There is a section in there showing pictures of what is left of the Lido and a couple of pictures of the "Cafe Basque cabaret bar". Is this what used to be the Lido Cavern - certainly looks like it?

Education

Did you know that on the 3rd December 1979. Eleven people died at a Who Concert.

Venue Riverfront Coliseum, Cincinnati, Ohio. USA.

Tragedy struck whenn 11 fans were trampled to death in the crush to enter the venue. General seating (first come, first served) was partly to blame, as well as the cold weather fans had endured while waiting for the doors to open. Questions were raised as to just how many of those doors were actually available to the crowd, at the time of the incident, and whether they had been opened on time. The Who weren't told of the tradegy until after their performance, one that even they felt had been a great show.

Question Two

As drummer said "did.nt They play at Broadstairs as the Detours"

Quite Correct the who were known as the Detours then High Numbers then The Who then back to the High Numbers then Back to The Who.

The Grand Ballroom in Broadstairs was in fact one of the longest bookings early on in The Whos start as Detours. They appeared almost monthly from November 62 till May 63

Performing mainly on a Friday night.

Nov 23rd 1962

Nov 30th 1962

Jan 4th 1963

Jan 18th 1963

Feb 22nd 1963

Mar 22nd 1963

Mar 29th 1963 (Gig Cancelled)

May 24th 1963

However The Who played one other venue in Thanet. We've covered Drealand, Margate & Ballroom Broadstairs.

Date & Venue of this "other" place they performed in Thanet please.
