Friendly games

Recommended Posts

Looking forward are there any friendly games arranged?

If so will they include QPR for picking up Mo Sharif for nothing, and Reading considering the Brian McDermott link?

This is all down to the availability and condition of the cabbage patch if we are going to spend another season there!

I'd be surprised if we had any home friendlies, especially high profile ones.

SYCOB have their pitch booked up till the end of May and then I'd assume they will be working on it for a month or so which will bring us close to the start of the season.

Hopefully will have some news regarding friendlies and season tickets in the next few days.

On the subject of friendlies, when looking on the Wealdstone site I see that they have 9 friendlies arranged already !!!! including Burnham, Biggleswade and Aylesbury. As per last season I would personally would like a friendly against them again.

As we all know with friendlies it's a case of get in quick or be left with the scraps.

I hope we get qpr otherwise we have been screwed with mo going there for nothing

I would say there's as much chance of us landing another man on the moon as getting to play QPR in a friendly. They will have the pick of any number of teams to play.

Ask them to keep their promise they made to us when Mo went to QPR for nothing, even if we have to play away from the cabbage patch stadium.

Did they promise that? I've not seen that anywhere.

Even if they did send a team it would be a QPR XI filled with kids and players nobody has ever heard of so hardly a big crowd puller.

I definately read it somewhere.

It was when we were all a bit peeved about getting nothing for Mo because he was not on a contract and QPR said in compensation they would be willing to send a strong team for a pre-season friendly with us.

Given all the confusion over the fine, (non)points-deduction and whether or not Neil Warnock will be in charge next season, I won't be too surprised if it didn't happen.

We had a friendly booked in against Crystal Palace last season, but that was cancelled because (as I understood it) of doubts they could send out any sort of team. I wasn't aware that the venue had anything to do with it.

Especially at Holloways Park. Look what happened last year with the Crystal Palace friendly.

what happened? how comes we didn't play Palace, i was really looking forward to that fixture, a whole load of Watford fans were coming down for that fixture, iwas gutted to see it cancelled :(

It was cancelled, as far as I'm aware, because Beaconsfield were unable to prepare the pitch in time for the season after the pitch work was delayed.

The fixture was arranged on the basis it would have been ready a certain amount of time before the season allowing Slough to have 1 "home" pre-season friendly like the season before against Stevenage.

Personally I'd rather wait until the new ground was built and then have 1 or 2 prestigious names come and open the ground. We would get far more people coming to watch the game than at Holloways Park for obvious reasons. It doesn't look good on the club announcing friendlies and then having to cancel them because of pitch concerns, and any decent club wouldn't want to play on a dodgy pitch prior to the season anyway in case of injuries.

Yeah but the point here is that QPR made a promise to us to send a team down for a friendly

If they don't then we will get nothing for Mo which is bad as he is doing well at QPR and so will prob go on to make them millions, Hopefully!

Sadly Mark that's true but when QPR start playing in the Premier League they'll realise they are the small fish and will be patronised and mistreated in the same way. It's the way of the football world unfortunately.

Nothing was promised ...an offer of a QPR X1 may have been on the agenda...but do we really think that a big crowd would be here for such a match ? don't think so...somehow !

Non League friendlies are best, gives a more even balance to see what we will need to do next season..IMO friendlies with pro teams are not worth anything !
