2 Seasons G.F. are they that good,Lights, seats, enclosed Ground already?

LAST TIME I WENT TO SPELTHORNE SPORTS THEY DIDN'T HAVE A STAND OR LIGHTS BUT HAVE STANDING AREA AND PITCH BARRIERS. APPARENTLY THEY HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE LOCAL RESIDENTS WITH THEIR LIGHTS TO GET THEM INSTALLED VIA THE COUNCIL (I STAND CORRECTED) BUT THATS WHAT I'VE BEEN TOLD.

THEY HAVE A LARGE AND VERY BUSY SOCIAL CLUB AND CLUBHOUSE RESEMBLING WP.

VP scotched that rumour last month:

any one know the truth about old farnbronians taking over the cody ground (farnborough north end) and joining div 1?

A division too low and in the wrong part of the pyramid for promotion to CCL1. The Aldershot League feeds into the Hampshire Premier League or Hampshire League 2004. Besides, it looks like they'll only finish second to Headley and I'm sure Headley will want promotion. They weren't too impressed with being relegated last season.

headley have confirmed on there site they will be staying in the aldershot premier league next season , and vp may have scotched them but it keeps coming up and am hearing on a weekly basis

The FA works in mysterious ways so you can never rule out anything but Whitelaw gave us a list of who'd applied to join the CCL by the December 31st deadline and Old F'boro's weren't on it.

If there is an appeal to the FA it's bound to fail as they didn't apply in time, if they have applied at all.

Either that or Whitelaw wasn't giving us the full story.

If I were running Old F'bs I'd consider one of three moves - application for promotion to one of the Hampshire Leagues or, if they want to get into the CCL part of the pyramid, application to switch to Surrey County Intermediate (Western) as teams like Yateley Green have done in recent years or application for promotion to the Surrey Elite. The one most likely to succeed would be the straight switch to the SCIL although that depends whether either of the Hampshire Leagues will accept the second placed team from the Aldershot League.

I don't know how the Surrey Elite work regarding taking 'promoted' teams from anything other than the two Surrey leagues. I doubt they have an agreement with Aldershot FA to take their teams without the national FA sayso and teams being voted in at the AGM.

Hi, new user here.

Just wanted to comment on this thread - I have also heard that Spelthorne may be in the CCL1 next season and that Chertsey will be promoted to the Ryman Division 1 South, but only if Fleet Spurs or Bognor Regis Town are switched to the Zamaretto South & West League.

Virginia Water could also be coming into the CCL1, as they have both lights and an enclosed pitch, but the Windsor FC issue is yet to be decided. My money is on Windsor coming in at CCL1 level, following the example of Merthyr Town (formerly Merthyr Tydfil) who were placed in the Toolstation 1st Division last season, and Guernsey FC to come in at Step 5 (CCP). My reason for saying this is that CCP clubs could possibly afford the expense of playing Guernsey more than say my own side or Chobham, Feltham etc.

I believe, and I hope, that CCL1 is expanded to 22 teams next season as it would bode well for a more competitive league. Even if the likes of Aldermaston and Liss join, I'd be for it.

Oh, and no decision as yet taken about the Sheers future. From talking briefly to one of their people recently, they want to stay in the CCL1 but the Council and Athletics people have got them over a barrel with regards to the ground. The Athletics people are swines, and couldn't have been nastier to the club last pre-season (speak with Trevor Wenden about it - he and others were fuming!) I hope it's not the Intermediate League, as the club needs more fans to come along and a drop down would not help that. There's over 5,000 people on the Sheerwater Estate and a handful of fans at most games - very sad indeed!

Anyway, thanks for hearing (or reading) me out :)

Hi Ellers,

My mistake (oops) - they have what appear to be floodlights behind one of the goals (or lighting of some sort) but taking a closer look it appears that they are not for the pitch but the 5-a-side court!

I'll put my hand up to this one :).
