Cobham v Worcester Park Tonight

Recommended Posts

I'm sure I have explained this before.

Due to cricket, Worcester Park were unable to play a Saturday home match until the second Saturday in September, by which time they had already played away on five occasions. It would have been six but a match at Westfield was postponed, for reasons I cannot instantly recall. They are able to play at home on the Bank Holiday at the start of the season and they did so on Mon 30 August. They can also play in midweek at home at the start of the season, but that means 6.00 p.m. kick-offs or thereabouts which I try to avoid as I know they are unpopular for obvious reasons.

During the season, and in common with many others, they had six home 1st team matches postponed due to the weather. Although the Club has recently managed to hire one or two senior clubs to ease the problem, that option was not available in mid winter, which meant that, due to no lights, all of those games had to be scheduled towards the end of the season, where I always try to leave a few free dates. The situation was then further compounded by the fact that their reserve team had a long run in the Surrey Intermediate Cup. Under current rules, if they are drawn at home in this competition, the reserves have to be given precedence over the 1st Team, which meant that two further 1st team matches had to be postponed.

They then lose the ground in mid to late April, which does not help the situation.

We juggle it around every season and invariably get the games in, but until all clubs acquire lights (or are removed from the League), we will have the situation whereby clubs without lights will often find themselves with a surfeit of home games at the end of the season, especially in a season such as we have just had, with prolonged weather problems.

Great post whitelaw. We all know the situation with WP and yes maybe having 9/10 home games at the end of the season on a decent pitch at a place they score a lot of goals did help but it's not easy playing catch up and fair play to them.

Playing catch up,well as the League Tables at the top of page show,Worcester Park in December had played more games than anyone. But my take on both Premier and Div 1 is that both Champions had an edge over other Teams by not being involved in the latter stages of any Cups.Who can forget Kevin Rayners masterstroke of getting knocked out of 3 Cups in a week. When Teams concentrate only on the League, they have a better chance of winning their League.Chertsey's great run in the vase last season hindered their chance of winning the League, likewise South Park's great Cup runs this year, nearly messed up their promotion Chances, which must of been their main aim.

WHILST I APPRECIATE YOUR COMMENTS SMUDGYBOY, BUT IF A CLUB HAS A STRONG SQUAD IN DEPTH, A BIT OF LUCK WITH INJURIES & SUSPENSIONS, THE ABOVE CAN BE ACHIEVED, AFTER ALL, CLUBS ENTER CUPS TO WIN THEM, IF NOT THEN WHY ENTER IN THE FIRST PLACE, IF THEY WANT TO AVOID PLAYING TOO MANY GAMES TO THWART ANY CHANCE OF WINNING THE LEAGUE. ?

IN HINDSIGHT YOUR COMMENTS MAYBE JUSTIFIED, BUT ALL CLUBS WANT (OR SHOULD WANT) TO WIN LEAGUE, THATS COMPETITION, BUT SOME ARE REALISTIC SO ENTER CUPS WHEN ITS A 1 OFF AND THEN WHO KNOWS ..........

I HAVE SEE TRS EXCELLENT VIDEOS OF THE CUP FINALS. AND ARE YOU SAYING THAT PLAYERS DO NOT WANT TO FEEL LIKE THE PLAYERS WHO ARE THE WINNERS OF EACH CUP.JUST LOOK AT THE JOY ON THEIR FACES..........I BEG TO DIFFER ! ............INTERESTING THO'

NG, Clubs enter competitions to win them? The FA Cup??? Not at this level!!! Its for the prize money that each round brings as you progress! However; I take your point, if you want to concentrate on the league then enter the cups but then play your second string.

and then what happens if you dont enter the cups and you have some rotten luck in the league and end up not challenging? The season is well and truly over.......... If the league is going well and you're still left in cup then play your 2nd string (if you have one)
