Hx 2 Maidstone 0

cup of tea

Not a great deal between the two teams, Hornchurch had the edge especially up front. Good games all around from the Hx players.

Tremondous support from the Maidstone fans, expect them to bounce straight back with support like that.

A good end to the season, 7 points from 9 and could have been more with a bit of luck.

It was good support from Maidstone, only problem is that out of the 300 odd fans that were there, the majority don't follow them away from home too much, there away support is usually one of the biggest in the league but nowhere near today's numbers,I would hazard a guess that a third of those there today probably only go to the odd home game as well

The large support was there a couple of years ago. The move to Ashford killed it off. It was evident at our last home game that people are starting to drift back. I think the good news coming out of the club about the ground and the departure from Ashford (back to Sittingbourne) are the main reasons. If we start building a ground later this year and are running well in R1S or R1N we may rediscover past support levels. I think you will see big crowds at home games when/if we get back. Many people seem unprepared to travel to Ashford and, to a lesser extent, Sittingbourne (yet will go away???). In fact two years ago we would get 300 at a home game and then see 300 turn up at an away game. Many of the people you saw on Saturday hadn't been to many, if any, games this season. However, there were plenty of old faces I was saying hello to from my commentary position.

On the game I think we had a go but we met a side that defends really well and has a decent enough forward pairing to cause real problems. We just couldn't get the breakthrough. For most of us it was unbelievable that we got to Saturday's position and credit must go to the way Jay Saunders has transformed us winning 6 out of 8 games. From what I saw of Hornchurch I cannot understand why you were not playing for a play-off place. You were much better than Lowestoft and, I suspect, other sides that were there and thereabouts.

Ironically it was defensive errors in games against Margate,Harrow and canvey to name 3 which put the boot into our play off challenge.Too many times we have switched off at set pieces,If we can combat those errors there is not too many sides we cannot beat
