Club makes planning correspondence public

Fighting talk at last. Well done MFC. Its about time the wider public were made aware of whats going on here.

Now whether things come good on our part or not, because of this move by the club ,we will have to wait & see but I sincerely hope the council do take a more thorough look at the changes and act accordingly and might I add & more importantly "quickly".

Sadly I suspect they might dig their heels in & try & find a way out of this without losing face.I certainly hope they don't though.I'm sure they, like us dont want to go down the ombudsman route as that would be no good to either party. But if thats the way to go to get justice then I for one am all for it.

It's such a shame that we can't look up to our local council /councillors. Respect has to be earnt & as I see it this is a major chance for them to turn this round & to get that respect.

Oh yes, there will still be people damning the council for something or other & I am one of them but they will have earnt a little respect even from me if they were to admit an error on their part & do the right thing.

It is clear that the Club have not,on this occasion overstepped any line & that the changes to the hotel are as stated, minimal, and within the guidlines for an amendment.

Well, the third letter makes clear the likelihood of costs being sought from TDC, which of course would have to come from their budget.

Maybe they can take it out of the allowances paid to councillors (NOTE NOT expensesbut money paid to them for just being councillors)

This years figure stands at £235,440 BASIC plus £336,773 for being on committees etc giving a total of TAXPAYERS money given to people who are meant to represent us of £572,213 PER YEAR.

And before Simon Moores or one of his cronies say on here or his blog that we are making things up this information is straight from Thanet District Council

Just think with that money KCC could run the Turner Centre from 1st January to 14th April each year

Woah! That correspondence looks mighty interesting. And good to see a Tory council ignoring Tory government guidance.

So is it political oversight, legal advice or just plain incompetence that's to blame? Is it the way the elected members and officials work (or not) together?

This is scandalous if it does end up costing TDC money through court action, AND the developer / club lose out AND badly needed new jobs aren't created AND new community elements don't get to go ahead AND Margate loses the nationwide publicity generated with a senior football club AND other developers stay away because of the difficulties of dealing with this Tory council.

What a shower :wall:

Funnily enough, one of the things I have been thinking about during all this is that any businesses thinking about relocating to the area may be looking at this saga, thinking that it will be too much hard work to get planning approval and look elsewhere.

Good posts bluetoffee and Steve B and we are back where we started. This why Margate is in the state it is in. No one in their right mind would want to invest here.

I was speaking in business with a local Cllr of a another area and he asked how Margate FC were getting on with the planning for the ground and I told him of the whole sorry story. He told me that Thanet District Council has a poor reputation amongst other councils. I hope the people of Thanet try and change this next week.

Must say in the past 1987-1994 I had nothing but help from the Planning and Building Inspectors departments at TDC when changing the internal layout of our Hotel and building an extension for our accommodation, which is why I cannot understand what is going on now.

Margate is crying out for reasonable accommodation, there is a shortage so encourage new build.

Well, the third letter makes clear the likelihood of costs being sought from TDC, which of course would have to come from their budget.

On the main page you say that the letters have gone out to the local press and media. Are they also being sent out to the wider press. The times etc, The Football press like the NPL, and likes of Sky sports.

For the sake of this area has a whole I believe this affair needs to be placed out there.

In a speech back in more troubled times Local boy and then Conservative Prime Minister Sir- later Lord heath -Edward Heath accused certain businesses of being the "unacceptable face of capitalism" Surely in the situation we have here, our local authority can be branded as the "unacceptable face of Conservatism".

On compensation for the developer.

Gary Lever our development partners a good bloke. He is of course first and foremost a business man. His Company as many interests in the area including Richborough Power station. I read in last weeks local that his Green company and this years MFC shirt sponsor BFL , are hoping to create hundreds of jobs at the Richborough site by, building a state of the art green recycling park.

How would one work the out compensation for his efforts. Will it include £900,000 that he forked out to get us back to Hartsdown and all the monies he as spent helping to keep us going upto this stage and if so, how does a bankrupt council carry on? I do not advocate rebellion amongst those that are the down trodden rate / council tax payers. We who they are supposed to serve and who pay their wages / expenses. If, this does go to court and we are landed with a sizable bill then, the only way to recoup the monies would be a significant hike in council tax or, a group of tax payers getting together to hold the officers and officials to account by pressing through the courts for, the monies in form of compensation from them personally or, am i being naive in believing they are not protected from this happening.

This area should be booming, Airport, Ramsgate Port( council owned) China Gate way, 3 great sea side towns all being held back WHY.
