RESERVES

Recommended Posts

How many Clubs promote from within, if they want success.Easier to let other Clubs do the groundwork, then nick them with a few quid.Reserve and Youth Team Football is a loss leader for all Clubs.Entrance Fees next to zero,Bar Takings next to zero, but still League Fees,Officials,Hospitality, all to pay for.Thousands of Pounds wasted in my opinion.Do the people who play at these levels, support the 1 st Team,do the people who support them, support the 1st Team.No would be my answer from experience. As long as little Johnny is happy, and progressing they will come along to watch. And as for finding a gem,it has become harder by the years,Most talented kids are on Pro. Books by 16 at the latest. There are a few exceptions to the rule,so we can all dream.

The first team manager and reserve team manager must be able to liase, and get on.

I think the real problem with running a reserve team can be summarised, thus.......

SCENARIO........

Friday night, and reserves team manager's phone rings..... "Hallo mate. Look - I've got a real problem for tomorrow. Three first team players have cried off, so I need A, B and C, and I will need D and E on the bench !!"

Hardly worth the reserve team turning out now, surely ??

What you do is bring some more youth through and give them the experience,,,,That is what Res footie is all about.

Quite a few of our youth team players play for our reserves in the Suburban South but are not ready for the extra physical demands of the CCL.

There are a few exceptions of course and we have just put one 18 year old on a contract for next season.

Many reserve team players are happy playing there as they like the club they play for but many want first team football.

We have used almost 80 players this season in our reserve side which finished 7th.

We have a good management team in place, ideal for the level as they have good contacts and have youth team managing experience.

The reserve team costs a lot of money to run and I can see why some clubs run only 1st XI and youth.

I look forward to the new Suburban League proposals for next season as well!coffee%20%282%29.gif

CC you need to be sure when you put people on contract. watched the lad yesterday could be a gamble. but thenagain it is only money.coffee%20%282%29.gif

Well, I have never named the player and you guess/summise The Fan.

We have at least 4 youth players good enough for our 1st team squad!
