v Concord

Recommended Posts

Embarassing. Concord fully deserved their win (as much as it pains me to say it). The fans turned up in numbers today and we gave it our all, the players must have all got stuck in traffic on the way, because I didn't see one of them turn up.

The team must perform in our final game this Saturday, they owe the fans.

Firstly, well done to Concord today, they played really well and fully deserved the three points. They played with passion, heart and pride and if I was a Concord player/fan/coaching staff etc I would be very proud.

The weather today didn't help things, as lovely as it was to watch football in the gorgeous April heat, it can't be easy to play in it. However, with that said, Concord were playing in the same conditions and won!

Today is what I would describe as a really bad day at the office and unfortunately it happened on a crucial game. I though Game and Easterford played really well but maybe the pressure was too much for some of them out there and two red cards is never good, although I hear that Jason was unlucky with his!?

:492:

I was a bit embarassed today and I did walk away from the game with about 15 minutes left to play but I came back out because walking away from a game is something I've never done before and don't want to do again. I do think our boys lacked that extra bit of fight that Concord seemed to have. Maybe we were a bit over-confident or cocky and thought today was a forgone conclusion....who knows!? Maybe we also thought the same about our play-off position....

I do think that in general this season we've played brilliantly and shouldn't be beating ourselves up too much. I know I'm gutted with the result but I'm pretty sure every single Canvey player is too. We should be proud of ourselves despite today and hopefully we'll come back fighting on Saturday for our last game : )

I did say in the heat of the moment that I might start watching Concord next season but upon reflection I think I'll stay where I am :-p LOL!

On a separate note, hats off to Concord on what has been a very successful season for them too... we'll get our revenge next year : )

the worst easter possible for us and from my eyes its just looking almost like we are running out of steam at the end of a very long season now, which i know is heartbreaking and i hope to god that im wrong.

we were just played off the park today and looked like we did on saturday, very jaded and out of ideas, combined with some silly passing and stupid fouls the game ran away from us against a very well organised concord team with a much better mentality than us. Well played concord, deserved the win and on their first appearance in the Ryman Premier, they have done themselves proud getting this high in the table.

if we do miss out on the play-offs, then i think the yellow army can be proud that we have given it the go at it that we have, considering last season we in the end only just finished outside of the relegation places and i know a few people who thought this season could end up worse. For a few months we was the team that no one wanted to play. But i will say, it aint over yet and stranger things have happened.

as always, the yellow army were brilliant today, despite being 4 nil behind we kept on trying to pick ourselves up.

onward to would could be an amazing day in Tooting

COME ON YOU YELLOWS

the management should get on the website and apologize for this shameful performance, this was it the biggest game this season 3rd in the league in the play offs 1100 in attendance and 63 from concord, many hadn't been to canvey for years and probably wont return the yellow army were brilliant loud and proud everything about canvey looked great today, then the team which has been excellent this season came out we were ready, but then and this is hard we were totally outplayed by a better, fitter, hungrier and more professional team we can slag them off all day but they had the answer on the pitch, they were technically superior and didn't lose composure, their management were encouraging and inspiring not glum and silent, i don't think glen even stood up, concord did a number on us and deserved their win and should of had 2 pens and we should of had another sent off by the end i felt like i had the crap kicked out of me, we've had a great season and still could get in the play offs but today was hard to stomach and embarrassing

Full credit to Concord, they knew how to treat a derby game. They played the better football, looked sharper, faster, passed more accurately, fought harder and dictated the play throughout. Reminds me of how Canvey play for the majority of their games, but alas today of all days we chose to have our shocking home performance of the season, (every club has one home and away every season). The last time I witnessed Canvey so comprehensively beaten at home was the season we lost to eventual league winners, Aldershot Town.

Personally I thought Hallett's red card was incredibly soft and losing his bit of fighting spirit up front was quite pivotal to our second half performance. Can't argue with our change in formation, something needed to be done going in two-nil down and having only ten men at the break, although I think Remi got some unjustified stick from the terrace when he's only played one game for his previous club all season and made only his second appearance for us, in a higher league.

Unfortunately for us, with Concord playing in such a similar fashion to ourselves, they knew how to exploit our weak spots and which individuals upon which to focus their attacks. Biggest disappointment for me was our tally of shots on target - zero. Compared to Concord who had at least five shots on target, three of which they converted into goals and three shots off target of which one resulted in Moor's own goal.

That being said, there were a couple of players who had decent games. Easterford was pretty solid throughout, Rusty may have done better with the first goal but other than that he had no chance with the other goals and pulled off a fantastic block with his foot when one-on-one in the second half. Gameo was getting stuck in and Leon worked his socks off to no avail. Nice to see we have some long-throw specialists amongst the ranks too.

A shame we couldn't have kept our undefeated run at the Brockwell going, but all good things come to an end at some point. At the end of the day, once it's all said and done, one bad performance doesn't make the season and we will take stock, brush ourselves down, get right back up again and continue the fight to the bitter end, whether it be this season or the next.

A small part of me is slightly pleased that this bad performance was a thrashing dished our by a good footballing side, who reside just up the road and with whom we've shared some good humored banter. Much better than being on a hiding from some of the hoof-ball thugs we've come up against throughout the season.

Morning All...Hope your not feeling as bad as I am but I am sure you all are...Got to hand it to them they were sharper, fitter and tactically better than us...Congratulations Beachboys..

A point made that I would like to comment on.. Matt H "Can't argue with our change in formation, something needed to be done going in two-nil down and having only ten men at the break, although I think Remi got some unjustified stick from the terrace when he's only played one game for his previous club all season and made only his second appearance for us, in a higher league." Sorry Matt H, but why cant you argue with the changes made? We had just had our striker who was playing up front on his own (at home) sent off, we are 0-2 down at the break and we take off our right back, our other striker and put on a left back..??? Who hasn't been with the club all season, hasn't trained or played with the squad all season and is expected to come in to a strange set up in our biggest game of the season and do what...? Not Remi's fault at all but you have got to question the wisdom in that surely..??

And when losing we took off a striker and replaced him with a (defensive, imo) midfielder...

Firstly, hats off to The Yellow Army; cracking support from the terraces :applaus: :applaus: :applaus: Reminiscent of the old Ryman Premier day's with big games against Hornchurch, Aldershot, Farnborough etc.

Just under 1200 people packed into The Brockwell, good to see lots of familiar faces, and plenty of families and kids turning out for the biggest derby game in The Ryman Premier.

Of course I'm buzzing off the result, we turned up wit a determined, set game-plan, and approached it in the right way, and it all seemed to fall into place. I don't necessarily agree with both red cards, and I hope people don't see that as detracting anything from the result as I honestly don't think Canvey would have won even with a full compliment of players.

It was interesting to see the changes made by the Canvey management, it certainly raised a few eyebrows on our bench; and I think there were too many players in yellow shirts who let the game, & the moment pass them by, and really didn't seem to fussed by it. As fans, you expect, and deserve better... BUT...

The majority of those players had played 2 days earlier, in sweltering conditions, and that would have had some bearing. And it is one hell of a long and hard season, and I think both clubs have done remarkably well to be in the positions that they are in now, so as disappointed as you will be, you shouldn't try and destroy the players who have pulled on that shirt all season.

Cracking food afterwards by the way, and good to catch up with some of the people from on here.

I'll echo what Beachboys said, and in a way, hope you don't go up; so we can have another two cracking derby games again next year.

I think this is key - I heard so many people shouting at individual players as they left the pitch. That's not going to help one bit - the players know they should have done better and will be as hurt as the supporters (I hope!!). Not one of them turned up - it wasn't down to single players. Something must have happened prior to the game, because not one person in a yellow shirt looked like they wanted to play which is really odd after the past few months we have had.

I'm so proud of the team this season, but this result is hard to swallow - especially the manor of the defeat and who it was against!

I will say one thing and only my opinion !

I do not believe giving the supporters player of the year on the pitch is the correct thing to do as i am quite sure there was a few players who

may have thought they were in the running and would be a bit peeved just before k/o ?

As i say just my opinion !coffee%20(2).gif

Some excellent comments on here that make interesting reading.

Concord thorougly deserved their win and obviously had done their home work on us and knew our strengths and weaknesses and exploited them fully. They were fitter and stronger than us and never allowed us to play our normal game. This was a professional performance from them and they deserve credit forr bouncing back from two dissapointing results against Maidstone and Aveley.

Tony Stokes was excellent for them and Ashley Miller rarely gave Rhodesy a kick. Was impressed with both these players as well as Steve King.

We just didn't seem to have any idea on how to approach the game and looked tired and jaded.

As embarrassing and upsetting as that performance was though, we really can't slag the players off for what overall has been a decent season.

This time last year, we were all glad the season was over after a pretty mediocre and forgettable campaign and most thought a season of mid table struggle was ahead.

This season the team have pushed on and improved and although it looks like we might miss out on the top 5, you can't argue that this season hasn't been exciting. We've played some terrific football at times.

Both Canvey sides can be proud of what they've achieved and I expect both to push on and improve next season.

I can tell you of one player that wanted to play...hes 20 years old, 100 % fit and fully rested for the last 26 games..!! Ever since being recalled from his successful loan period and scoring the winner at Dagenham and Redbridge....

Nahhh second thoughts lets leave him on the bench to rot.... :wall:

Even when we're 3 nil up playing a team with 10 men... Why on Earth would we bring a proven, young striker on?!
