There are 12 promotion slots avaluable but only 10 league winners have the ground grading which leaves 2 runners up spots for the other 2 spaces avaluable and on the points per game ratio us and Whitley bay have the best records which can't be matched or beaten during the remainder of the season so this is why we belive we have one of the 2 extra promotion slots!

I sincerely hope you are correct, but I just have a feeling that runner-up being promoted is only optional and that normally the FA (bless em) give a stay of execution to the step 4 clubs rather than promote runners-up. But genuinely in this instance I do hope I'm proved wrong. Sad for Ken and Roly and all at Guilford but Chertsey have been so close for so long they deserve it

The runner up being promoted is not optional. It's the rules. Step 4 clubs are only reprieved after all the step 5 promotions have been sorted out.

From the FA handbook - http://www.thefa.com/TheFA/RulesandRegulations/~/media/Files/PDF/TheFA/FA%20Handbook%2009%2010/National_League_System_pg157-162.ashx/National_League_System_pg157-162.pdf

In the event that there are more clubs qualifying for promotion than spaces available, priority will be given to the Champion clubs in Step 5 leagues. If there remains vacancies, clubs finishing in 2nd place in Step 5 leagues will be ranked according to the average number of points gained per games played.

There will be no promotion from the Western league or Hellenic League this season as none of the teams who applied are eligible. That leaves 12 leagues fighting for 12 promotion spots - one each.

So VPCTFC, am I understanding this correctly,

If Guildford win their appeal with the FA, both they and Chertsey would be promoted ?? or just Guildford & Chertsey then may be promoted as one of the best 2nd place teams

Just for confirmation Chertsey Fan (who we still have no idea who you are), i have not left Chertsey and as Spencer said above following another long season we all need time to breathe, time to see what happens with Guildford's appeal and we may all then be in a position to think about next season.

I didn't bother copying the whole thing but, as CT says, only one up from each step 5 league. What the rules don't say is what happens if there are 14 first placed clubs eligible for promotion. It hasn't happened yet but it's getting closer each season.

Step 4 and Step 5

In normal circumstances, the clubs in the bottom two places in each of the six divisions at Step 4 will be replaced by the twelve most suitable clubs from the leagues at Step 5 as determined by the LC. Each of these leagues will nominate the club finishing in 1st position subject to meeting the entry criteria and wishing to be considered for promotion.

In the event of the 1st placed club not being nominated, the club finishing in 2nd position can be nominated subject to the same criteria. Both the clubs relegated from Step 4 and the clubs to be promoted from Step 5 will be placed in a feeder pool and allocated to the most geographically appropriate league.

In the event that there are more clubs qualifying for promotion than spaces available, priority will be given to the Champion clubs in Step 5 leagues. If there remains vacancies, clubs finishing in 2nd place in Step 5 leagues will be ranked according to the average number of points gained per games played.

Clubs seeking promotion from Step 5 to Step 4 must make application in writing to The Football Association, copied to their existing league, by 31st December in the relevant year. The application must be accompanied by the agreed grading fee, as determined by the LC, which is non refundable. The Football Association will arrange for ground grading visits to take place before 31st March in the relevant year. A final list of clubs eligible to be

considered for promotion will be published by 15th April. Final promotion will be subject to the criteria outlined in the paragraph above.

I've never seen a list of clubs who are eligible for promotion published. It was said the FA would announce this season's list today but nothing yet. You'd assume Guildford and, possibly, Chertsey would be told before the list is published so they'll know before we do.

No Teflon, only one up. As it stands its Chertsey, if Guildford win their appeal it would be them, obviously subject to another appeal......

Would you risk incurring their (FA) wrath again then CT ? coffee%20(2).gif

Great to see we stayed up and congratulations to Guildford City on winning the league. Really hope the champions go up and good luck with the appeal. find it rather strange and unsporting if Chertsey would want to further appeal if Guildford go up. Why? you finished second!. Win it yourself and do it the right way. Roll on saturday and a trip to the Vale to end the season..
