Ash v Guildford did finish 2-3, Ash having lead 2-1 at one stage.

I believe Chertsey won 2-1? Anyway, the champers was flowing at the end of the game at Ash! Well done Guildford.

Chertsey were celebrating going up at the end of the Egham Game - see their facebook page via this link:

Chertsey Celebrate Promotion

I do hope they aren't going to be too disappointed when the FA finally decide Guildfords fate

:monkey:This will probably upset a Curfew or two, but who gives a toss?

COMBINED COUNTIES LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION MONDAY 25 APRIL 2011 EGHAM TOWN 1 (0) CHERTSEY TOWN 2 (0)

Egham Town scorer: Matt Grave (50). Chertsey Town scorers: Trevor Charlery (70), Nathan Blanks o.g. (71)

Chertsey Town's last game in the CCLPremier Division this season and, they were keen to remind everyone, for at least one season, was mired in controversy and riddled with mistakes by officials and home defenders alike. With rumours still abounding concerning champions-elect Guildford City's Spectrum Arena's eligibility for Step 4 the Curfews are, if the FA decide in favour of City's appeal, dependent on results elsewhere or else theywill be playing their Runnymede Stadium neighbours again in season 2011-2012. (There was nothing on the City website to indicate either way.)

Egham boss John Hamsher was faced with the unexpected unavailability of defender Tom Martin, with car problems, but Matt Grave, not able to play against Epsom & Ewell, was back in a line-up from which Hamsher dropped himself.

In gorgeous Bank Holiday sunshine the two sides, did little to test each other until the 14thminute, when Grave curled in a cross from the left and saw the ball flicked out for a corner. It was not until the 30th minute that the first clear chance came, Justin Gray pulling off a superb save from Lee Weemes' header. Five minutes later Chertsey should have been reduced to ten men after former Egham man Marcus Moody ploughed through Jamie Houghton with a late, two footed lunge but the referee completely ignored the incident aside from giving the home team a free kick. The miscreant almost saw his assault punished when former Curlew darling John Pomroy curled his free kick in, keeper JoeTalbot's finger tips touching the ball away for another Egham corner. Talbot denied Pomroy again when the striker broke free in the last minute of the first half.

Egham got off to a disastrous start in the second period, Nathan Blanks fouling Dean Papali in the area.Justin Gray has a terrible record with penalties and Papali is a top marksman at this level, so there was only one winner, wasn't there? However Papali shot to his left, Gray dived the right way and the score was kept goalless. Soon after a flowing move that ended with Kabuye linking with Pomroy, who then slipped the ball to Grave for an emphatic scoring shot in the 50th minute saw Egham take the lead with the scorer's first goal since his return to the club.Egham were on a high now and played the best football thus far under Hamsher.

Ten minutes later it all started going wrong for Egham, starting with Dan Bennett striking the left post from distance. Papali and Moody went off for Chertsey, the former's replacement, Trevor Charlery, taking advantage of the fact that the Egham defence failed to mark a man who is six foot loads tall to head in a free kick. A minute later Blanks tried a back pass to Gray, whose attempted trap failed utterly and the ball rolled in for what, wrongly, turned out to be Chertsey's winner. The match turned a tad sour and one flare-up went unpunished before another ended up with Egham's Chris Robinson and Chertsey's Miles Smith being dismissed, with Aaron Taylor and Leiki Saku cautioned. Will McDonald, whose last appearance was in the 1-3 defeat at Alwyns Lane, replaced Kabuye with nine minutes to go. Houghton and Pomroy had shots cleared as Egham regrouped but even the winners cannot have been happy with the officiating as Andy Crossley was sent tumbling in the Egham box. After Egham's Luke Muldowney and Chertsey's Phil Page had shots turned away Muldowney made a superb save off the Egham line from Page's angled shot. Then came the moment that will stick in Egham's craw when, off Grave's corner, Muldowney thumped in a header that clearly crossed the line by at least a yard, as was admitted immediately afterwards by the Chertsey keeper, who had hooked the ball out of his goal. Egham were furious, especially with the assistant referee, and the home fans were further incensed with the behaviour of Mark McGibbon. He fell dramatically under a KarleAndrews tackle in the Chertsey box and reacted to the criticism by dropping his shorts to wave his rump in the direction of an Egham fan standing with his wife and young son. This happened just yards from the same incompetent buffoon who waved play on after Egham's “equaliser”. I asked Chris Gay, Chertsey's Secretary, if he was happy with one of his players mooning at Egham fans but he threw a Wenger: “I didn't see it.”

Mr Hamsher has a lot of positives to draw from this match. Grave and Pomroy at times looked like the awesome coupling they were in the opening stages of this season, Grave took his goal with his old aplomb, and the team did not crumble even though the deciding goal was a hideous, self-inflicted wound. There is one game left, at home to erstwhile leaders Badshot Lea onSaturday. Thereafter, who knows? Perhaps it will be Egham's turn to shout “We are going up” at Alwyns Lane next season. After all, they got it wrong last season and this season they are full of the same blustering, arrogant self-confidence – pride may go before a fall, again.

EGHAM TOWN: Justin Gray, Paul Bartholomew, Nathan Blanks, Aaron Taylor, Luke Muldowney, Arafat Kabuye, Karle Andrew, Jamie Houghton, Matt Grave, John Pomroy, Chris Robinson. Subs: Frankie Driver (Bartholomew,90+1), Brendan Matthew, Michael Carey (Houghton, 88) , Will McDonald(Kabuye, 81).

Worcester Park 3 - 2 Knaphill

Knaphill 0-2 down, lost in last minute. Many youth team players today, well done lads!

Great game today and indeed 5 youth team players started the game, they also gave a great account of themselves, park were 2-0 up inside a 20 minuite period where they took total control of the game, but after that it was all knaphill, untill the last minuite when w,park and credit to them sealed the win with the last kick of the game.

Any one who was there would have seen a great game with two teams who gave there all in the lovely sunshine.

Great performance knaphill.

Watched Knaphill the other day against Hayes gate and the young lad Jack Ball has a great future you will do well to hold on to him, think he will need another season in Div1 then im sure he will step up.

What is going on at Hayes gate next season guv you must have some inside goss.

I agree was a even contest throughout in which based on the balance of play Egham may well of deserved a draw.

This might annoy a few egham fans but as tempestward said WHO CARES!!!

Seeing as I started on the bench I had the opportunity to take in the game from

a different view to usual.

Egham started brightly playing some neat football on a decent pitch all credit to eghams groundstaff, pommers and mark mcgibbon having a personal battle throughout most of the first half.

First decent chance of the half falling to Lee weemes with a header from close range but the egham keeper was equal to it.

I have to agree the challenge from Marcus moody was a late one but i don't think it merited a red.

Resulting free kick from pommers looked as if it was sneaking inside the near post but our keeper was equal to it.

Pommers then had the opportunity to put one over his previous employers but again Joe was equal to his tame effort.

0-0 half time

Second half the game came to life when 10mins in Dean Papali was fouled in the box.

The prolific striker got up to take the kick himself going low to the keepers right but he was equal to it good save.

Chertsey went 1 behind when good build up play saw the ball fall to the egham forward just inside the box and he made no mistake firing in from close range.

This sprung us to life and on about 65 minutes and with some inspired substitutions chertsey equalised, ball from the right was whipped in with saiku rising to head goal bound and Phil page at the far post tucks away from close range 1-1.

Few minutes later came callamity of the year, ball over the top for page he chased it down putting the egham defender under pressure he then passes it back to the keeper and aiming to trap the ball it rolls under his foot and into the net for 2-1.

Then egham decided to change sports into ufc, after one earlier altercation miles smith goes for the ball and the egham player decides to get him in a headlock mmmm this then sparked a few handbags resulting in 2 reds and 2 yellows.

Have to say from where I was the egham 'goal' did look to of crossed the line but until mr blatter confirms goalie technology we will never know, we should of had a another penalty when after good work from page he raced

Into the box and the defender bundles over andy crossley practically on the goalie denying him a tap in.

All in all a good game to end our season a d the final whistle sparked joy from chertsey and their fans alike.

Well done to Guildford overall I think they deserved it over the season!

Not wishing to p on anyone's fireworks, BUT, if Guilford are unlucky enough to be denied, where anywhere on the net does it say Chertsey will be promoted? i may be wrong but I can't recall anyone being promoted from the CCL from runner-up. With i thinks its 16 teams at step 5 able to apply for promotion for 12 step 4 places it would seem unlikely. Of course after the dust has settled and the possibility of teams folding and other teams not meeting the criteria it might be a possibility but i wouldn't count your chickens, the FA are very keen on saving 'the old guard' they've done it for years !!!! Look at Corinthian Casuals recent history !!!!!!!

I hope one of you do go up, it always seems like a waste of a season when no one moves up but....softly, softly dance%20(2).gif

There are 12 promotion slots avaluable but only 10 league winners have the ground grading which leaves 2 runners up spots for the other 2 spaces avaluable and on the points per game ratio us and Whitley bay have the best records which can't be matched or beaten during the remainder of the season so this is why we belive we have one of the 2 extra promotion slots!

Chertsey seemed very confident on Saturday that they would go up if achieving 2nd place as long as they had a better points per game score than other teams around the country in 2nd spot ! Spencer doesnt usually get it wrong and has usually got his finger on the pulse. He was very helpful with my ludicrous ban and pointed me in the right direction to get it sorted!

I sincerely hope you are correct, but I just have a feeling that runner-up being promoted is only optional and that normally the FA (bless em) give a stay of execution to the step 4 clubs rather than promote runners-up. But genuinely in this instance I do hope I'm proved wrong. Sad for Ken and Roly and all at Guilford but Chertsey have been so close for so long they deserve it

I'm told that Guildford City will be presented with their Championship at Meadowbank next Saturday, 30th, when they play Bookham in the final match.

DFC having finished our season, will probably all be down at 'The Bank' to see how our tenants get on.

I'm reliably informed also, that the bar will be well stocked.

:welcome:
