Arlesey Deducted 9 Points

It's crazy at this stage of the season, but certainly makes it more interesting!

Statement from the Arlesey wesbite:

THE LEAGUE TABLE NOW SHOWS ARLESEY TOWN WITH 9 LESS POINTS FROM THEIR TOTAL.

THIS IS AS A RESULT OF A MINOR TECHNICALITY THAT IS NOT TOTALLY ARLESEY'S FAULT.

THE LEAGUE HOWEVER HAVE GIVEN THEM AN EXTRAORDINARY PUNISHMENT.

EVERYONE AT ARLESEY IS DEVESTATED

THE WIN AGAINST UXBRIDGE KEEPS US IN THE HUNT

NOW THE MATCH AT HITCHIN ON MONDAY (3pm KICK OFF) HAS ENORMOUS SIGNIFICANCE AND WE ASK THAT EVERYONE GETS BEHIND THE TEAM AND GIVES THEM THEIR FULLEST SUPPORT.

A WIN AND ONLY A WIN AT HITCHIN WE GUARANNTEE PROMOTION.

SO COME ON ARLESEY FANS, RALLY BEHIND YOUR SIDE AND LETS WIN THE LEAGUE TWICE!

I see on the Zamaretto website that Arlesey have been deducted 9 points (3 games won when playing an ineligible player) so the championship is wide open again.

I spoke to a Biggleswade official who said he was on the League Committee and he said Arlesey have been docked the points because they haven't paid some fines.

I find that incredible when they have a rich Chairman and the fines would be loose change to him. The Biggleswade Official said that the Arlesey Chairman only pays the players wages and not a penny more.

Still find it incredible if he has paid a lot of money to the players for the whole season and then refuses to pay some fines and Arlesey don't get promoted it would seem a total waste of his money.

I'd heard it was for something else - paperwork filed incorrectly in respect of their full-back, Cameron Mawer, for three games back in November, all of which they won, following the player's transfer from Grays Athletic. Apparently both Arlesey and the League were well aware of this back in January, and one rumour is even that Arlesey had accepted a reduced 9 point deduction which had originally been 15.

We'll probably never know the truth, but it's an odd situation and strange that this deduction is taking effect so late in the day. Why sit on the bad news for so long? If the points had been deducted back then, things could have panned out very differently with Hitchin running away with it. We'll never know.

Your explanation certainly sounds more sensible compared to the Biggleswade Committee person which did sound like B#llshit to me at the time.

There was probably a meeting to discuss the offence, then a meeting to discuss an appeal, then a meeting to discuss Arlesey's acceptance of a 9 point deduction and not 15, then a meeting to discuss when to announce the points deduction. All good reasons for League Committees to have lots of free jolleys and to claim lots of expenses.

In all seriousness they probably didn't want to affect Arlesey's performances on the pitch while secretly hoping Arlesey didn't win the league. Or is the other explanation more plausible?

Arlesey fans? How many is that then.............you can't buy supporters. I sincerely hope Hitchin do it, a club with history and decent support. Unfortunately for us it means we'll have to play them (Arlesey) again.

no idea why it is being done so late but it is the same with QPR i think who will get docked points but wont find out how many until the end of the season.

Hi All

Absolutely stunned at this development. I'd got very used to the idea of seeing you all at Top Field on Thursday evening, but I am sure you'll understand if I say I hope I'll see you back at the Whateverit'scalledthisseason Stadium to see you turn them over.

Knew absolutely nothing about it until I was in the pub before yesterday's game, which is why i am still so gobsmacked. I was told that it is something to do with Cameron Mawer, but to do with an unpaid £25 fine. Not sure whether paperwork was involved as well?

Though we have a lifeline, we still have a massive mountain to climb. They will be stronger than when they played us in March (but so will we), but they will be very angry and some at least will be up for it. Wonder how the three ex Hitchin players who have gone there for the money will feel?

I have kept off both ours and Arlesey's website - this is my first posting anywhere since we were all officially told at 5:00 yesterday afternoon.

Will see you all on Thursday evening and if it's at Arlesey - wrap up, it's minus 9!!!cheesy%20(2).gif
