ETFC v Ilford

Shame, but not a game to bring back the fans.

Yes we won by the odd goal in one, but there appeared to be a lack of good football around at an 'end of season, nothing on the game' performance. However, we were supposed to be fighting to get into the play offs and Ilford fighting to stay up.

Looks like there will be two very local derbies next season.

As for the pitch! The rain last night came at the wrong time. Reminded me of the Carshalton FA Cup game so long ago.

Last nights rain never made much difference to the pitch.

Its been a while since my last post. Was waiting to see what happened. My thoughts have not changed.

CHANGES ARE NEEDED if we want to progress. Some of the players are not good enough. I feel we need at least 7-8 new players for next season to push for a promotion place and fear that we may not have the cash to progress with the outgoings for the new season with the new ground in order to get the players we need.

The eye - your entitled to your opinion but to I disagree we need 7 to 8 new players.

Steve has been very unlucky with injuries - Phil kane before the season started (he would of been massive for us had it not been for his leg break), Stuart blackburne (first game back from boreham wood and that happens), Leon osei (was on a terrific run of form) and Adam Wallace amongst others...

Granted you can't blame it all on the injuries but it's been a big factor as they are key players.

It's a case of so near but yet so far to fifth place.... turn a few of our losses into wins or draws and we would of been right in the mix up against some teams with rumoured to be much bigger budgets.

To say 7 to 8 changes need to be made is a massive over-reaction. We have a good squad of players and with a few new faces added to freshen things up I think next season will be a cracking one.

Come on you town!

Disagree with cold end , If these players are Injury prone then why the hell are they here ? These players need to be moved on if they cant last the season . By my reckoning thats 7/8 of them .

Oh come on OOT.

Stuart broke his wrist running into a concrete post.

Phil Kane broke his leg.

I think Adam came back to early from injury perhaps because of our injury crisis.

Leon (you may have a point) however again he seemed to be playing when he was not fit.

In other words if you have an injury crisis then it gets worse as players come back without being fully fit and break down again. It is one of the reasons we need a good reserve team with regular fixtures so players can play themselves back to fitness,.

Injury prone move them on - what a load of crap !!!!

Phil Kane - broken leg ( one off injury )

Stuart Blackburne - broken wrist ( one off injuriy )

Leon Osei - only injury of the season ( torn hamstring )

Johnny Moore - Ankle ligaments ( only injury of the season )

Adam Wallace - groin strain ( only injury of the season )

Bardle - knee problem ( only injury of the season )

Jordan Lockie ( knee ligaments earlier in season )

These arent injury prone players , they are one off injuries that can happen at any time , we have unfortunately had more than our fair share this season.

I wouldnt like Steve to lose any of these players , who have had spells on the sidelines and for far longer than both he and us fellow fans would have liked , to suggest that players that are injury prone should be moved on is nonsense , so is the call for 7 or 8 new players , that is replacing nearly half the squad and side. There is a good nucleous at the club and with a handful of new additions and without losing players to other clubs im sure as the COLD END states we will be in good shape for next season.

Steph and comeon great points. OOT to as you say replace 7 or 8 "injury prone players" would be like ripping up the team and starting again... and you've been proved they are not "injury prone"!

Take a look at east thurrock united... same manager, nucleous of same squad and players... didn't panic when they lost in the play offs twice...kept going and are now Champions. That's the blueprint we need to follow...

.... and with an average attendance of 139 which included a 420 against Needham Market.

I think we do need new players, just like all teams. 7 or 8? Maybe not, but we have seen who we will need to beat next year to progress.

Why not be a bit bold and name the 7 or 8 who in your opinion arent good enough ??????

I was not saying they were not good enough just that the performances in a lot of games have not been good enough and I am sure that we can acquire players of a better standard..

Okay these are the players i would release. I have used the squad page in the programme to identify. I realise that some of my choices have not played much this season but with releasing these players this will allow others to come in.

Paul Campbell

Paul Marks

Richard Morton

Rudi as a player

Jon Stevenson

Andy Jones

Ben hammond

fabio valenti

Sam byfield

Liam Hope

Bryan hammett

Leon Osei

Joe Stevens

Dan Forward

Andy its a brilliant opportunity for us to get new supporters or ones who have not been to see us for a while when we move to our new stadium and I feel to keep the crowds up we need to freshen things up and if that means 7-8 players let it be. If it means others changes to other parts of the team/managment Let it be.

WE NOW HAVE TO PUSH FORWARD and take advantage of the oppounity we now have.

NEW GROUND. NEW CHANCE.

Cold End the thing is we have not reached the playoffs twice. We reached them last year and this year we were just not good enough due to our results at home on the whole.

CHANGES NEEDED

Fully agree Steph that we need a reserve side.

Will we have a proper reserve side next year playing in a proper league on a saturday.

Why not enter a team in south Midlands league DIV 2 or another league where the players would be getting good opposition.

I too would like to comment:

Continuity is the best way forward and that includes continuos improvement. We need 3 maybe at the most 4 players who will improve the team and strengthen the squad.

Your list names mainly squad players.

The strongest team we could put out this season would be Rob, Jordan, Kane, Kirby, Gio, Bardle, Moore, Morton, Osei, Wallace And either Stuart or Liam. Thats the 11-12 we have to start with from next season and look to improve it. However, a budget can only put a side out on the strength of the budget, so if we have the same budget for next season then we are likely to get similar output.

Byfield and Hammond are due to return so thats two key improvements.

I think we have a strong and very very able nucleous, add 2-3 midfielders of better quality and a 20-25 goal striker and we'll be ok, but that cost's.

So it's not Steve and the team which needs to change but it's the budget, if we want it we need to raise the money to get.

Firstly the releasing of players wont necessarily mean we bring in new ones, Steve has the fortune of having a loyal bunch who are not motivated by money they enjoy playing for Enfield the club rather than for their pockets , if that were not the case many of these players who havent featured each week would have left a long time ago and picked up money by playing week in and week out regularly for other sides. ( we are lucky to have them ) They prefer to play for a club like ours, fight for their place and try to keep it when they get their chance , rather than to play for lesser clubs and play week in week out .

We could always go back to the revolving door we had two and three seasons ago when players just came and went as soon as they werent involved and as such, werent being paid , look where we were then two mid table finishes with the season over by christmas. ( i much prefer the last two seasons , lots of regulars and players who arent thinking of leaving as soon as they are left out , plus we have fallen just short not fallen spectacularly short )

Paul Campbell ( due to work ), Paul Marks ( due to work ) , Ben Hammond ( injury ), Fabio , Jon Stevenson and Sam Byfield ( due to work ) havent been regulars this season , so to include these in your list is a bit pointless.

Of the others Morton , Rudi , Dan Forward , Brian , and Liam Hope have in my opnion been valuable membersof the squad through out the course of the season and again for their attitude and desire to play football at this level for the right reasons have been worth their weight in my view. Liam is our top goalscorer I believe with 20 goals or so.

Joe only joined for the last 3 months.

Leon was playing as well as any player we have had as far as im concerned and Steve was gutted to lose him to injury jus when it happened , in fact i think im correct in saying that two rival clubs expessed a wish to sign him whilst he has been with us and he rejected both.

Im with the Cold End on this one , we arent far away and exciting times lie ahead.

PS THE EYE , football is all about opinions this is what it makes it the game that we love and debate all the time
