Good stuff. Like the idea from Mr Anderson about a referee having to speak to managers if they request it 30 minutes after the game has finished. In my years of experience the conversations that take place after that length of time are more likely to be sensible conversations rather than the ones 5 minutes after the end which tend to be much more emotional We should run with that.

Many other things I could say to that Respect chat but that is for another time.

Agree FM. Has been suggested to CCL Committee Members. Watched John Terry refue to offer his hand to Wayne Bridge yesterday. He should be charged with brining the game into disrupte for that.

Why is that rubbish Guv. They have to do the handshale so make a mockery when 1 player refuse to offer his hand. If he did and the other refuses to shake it then that player should be charged.

You are missing the point Guv totally. Respect is mentioned often yet people cannot even do a simple handshake so what chance has any more complex got of working.

So bridge should have been charged when he refused to offer his hand last time out?

A handshake is a handshake is a handshake.

Goes back to the olden days, (Smudge'll tell yer). It denotes that you are not carrying a weapon in your right hand - exactly the same as an armed-forces salute. It doesn't have to mean you like the person you are shaking with. You can still 'respect' the person, even if they aren't your favourite cup-of-tea.

A handshake before a game? what does it mean? Do players go in to tackles and think 'oh I better not commit a foul, I shook that players hand'! Do players think before they question refereeing decisions 'oh I better not question the ref, I shook his hand'! I don't think so!!!

So what does it achieve? In my opinion, not a great deal!

Why are managers, coaches and substitutes not involved?

What would happen if the whole team refused to shake hands? Are referees instructed in how to deal with such a situation?

Absolutely right, the respect campaign is a 100% farce. Makes not a blind bit of difference to how the players feel about their opposition or officials. You couldn't have the handshake at the end of the game because players wouldn't bother, it would cause no end of problems. In life you have to earn respect and refereeing should be no different. Unfortunately there are so many awful referees out there with no idea how to talk to people the FA thought they could force it..........WRONG, absolutely no chance, the respect campaign was always doomed to failure. This is something which has to be led from the top. When week in week out you see players on the TV swearing and shoving opponents and confronting officials, how on earth can anyone think for a minute the average man in the street will control himself when the adrenalin is flowing.

On the Terry thing, when he was made to look a twat by Bridge last year do you seriously think he would give him the opportunity again.....I think not !!! I certainly wouldn't and I would imagine most of you wouldn't either.

Aggre with your comments Spy.

Why are officials paid? I wonder how many would leave the game if they were not paid?? Or paid on performance, possibly judged by the assesor?

Yes Guernsey he should.

Respect went out of the window with the money.

As for awful refs I will always stand by the comment of you get the ref your level of play deserves. And although I agree with tghe majority of what spy says it is peoples views on respect that disappoint me. Every person in this world has my respect until they lose it for any reason. I should not have to earn respect from you becuase for the majority of the time we are on the same pitch you have a blinkered view as to my decisions. Wenger went mental at the AR today over a goal kick that was 100% correct. Will Wenger apologise ? No yet the AR has to "earn" his respect.

Respect should be there and if you lose it then so be it.
