Time to show our power

Following on from the publication of the local Conservative Party manifesto they have now turned the situation with Margate Football Club into a political one by stating

"Promise not approve new plans for Margate Football Club at the Hartsdown site or give a long-term lease without public consultation."

As this matter has been dragging on for 10 years and has been airred countless time IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN enough is enough.

We seem to be the only development that is subject to this"public consultation" and now it is time we showed the council that they are OUR elected REPRESENTATIVES and not some sacred cow that can do as and when it pleases whilst WE pick up the costs.

To that end I would request that you ensure that you and as many people as you know vote in the forthcoming local elections AND VOTE FOR ANY OTHER PARTY EXCEPT THE CONSERVATIVES. (if you normally vote Conservative but feel you cannot vote for another party please abstain from voting)

It is time that we showed the likes of Simon Moores Sandy Ezekiel Shirley Tomlinson Mick Tomlinson Ken Gregory Zita Wiltshire Bob Bayford Brian Sullivan Martin Wise and everyone else standing under the Conservative banner that we hold the power not them.

As the normal turnout in the local elections is so low (about 23%) as little as 30 votes switching will make a difference

VOTE but NOT for the Conservatives and lets get someone in that can seen the benefit that a successful and developing football club can do for the area by means of sporting development of our youth, a community based area and team travelling the country to play and give Thanet FREE publicity

This plea will probably result in my exclusion from the Conservative party that I have supported and been a member since I was 15 but as Thanet Coservatives have continually breached procedures and are currently working contary to national party directives I cannot continue to support them.

I would like as many people as possible to show their support for the club by adding a post to this confirming the non Tory vote

I totally agree with you Frankie.

I have nearly always voted Conservative (the exception being when I was a resident in Maggie's constituency and a reactionary twenty something), but after the demonstration by my elected concillor last night (Mr Bayford) I cannot bring myself to vote for him this time and my postal vote has now been cast for an opponent.

How he had the gall to say "We want Margate Football Club to succeed......." was totally beyond me.

Trouble is the Labour party are pretty much spouting the same. I Quote

"We will work to improve our public parks and open spaces, resisting attempts to build on green land well used

by the community, and insisting that three trees are planted for any one removed"

This maybe just me but they seem to be hedging their bets somewhat with their wording as the statement isnt really for or against MFC Stadium but in typical POLITICIAN speak (b0ll0cks) it can be construde either way. I say lets start a legal fund cos the club are gonna need every penny to beat these jumped up wanna-be's. :flame:

I'm normally a conservative also, and so is most of my family - and they are the important ones because most of them - unlike me who lives in Tonbridge - still live in Thanet.

As a lot of you know my dad Derek, used to play for Margate - 50's and early 60's - and while he is now very ill and frail, my mum and other members of the Wells family still take an interest in the club. And as mum said to a candidate in the election who called on her recently, "you dont get my vote or my family's unless you support Margagte Football Club."

Mum is (I know it's rude) 70+ and she feels very strongly about the club. Frankly, I'm stunned at the difference in the attitude of the Tory Council here in Tonbridge and Malling, and Thanet. You wouldn't believe they worked to the same principles of promoting private enterprise for the good of the wider community (and not just those who live around Hartsdown Park ?).

I can't make a diference in this coming election in Thanet, but I'm convinced you can.

Despite this latest set back, I will continue to make 120 mile round trips to all Margate home games and will continue to give my time in support of the directors, the club and it's objectives - whatever the local authority put in our way.

Steve Wells.

Just been looking at the 2007 TDC election results. Dane Valley is a very close ward, all three members are Tories, somewhere our supporters could conceivably make a difference and affect the overall composition of the council.

Maybe we could target this ward as somewhere to make a protest, most obviously by fans voting Labour. In addition maybe the club's facilities could be made available to canvassers from the opposition parties.

Bradstowe ward Having studied economics in another life I have voted Tory for the last 45 years, however in the light of this and the non availability of any help when I needed last year with local issues from either of my representatives then its Lib Dems for me and head office this time.

So this is going to affect Conservative candidates in other Thanet areas as well. OWN GOAL. two votes lost and going somewhere else so that's 4-0 and if my father in law votes make it 6-0. PTIYPASI

As I have said else where, as a life long Tory voter I am sad to say it's no this year.

They have brought politics into it, so, lets join in.

Hi Margate football fans, the 3 Labour candidates standing in the Dane Valley Ward will do everything possible to assist Margate updating their ground. They cannot commit any more than that because if elected they may sit on the planning committee. Please look at your programme, one candidate family has sponsored two players this year.

Has attended Margate matches since 1960. You refer to the last election were 3 conservatives won, one lived in Panama, one was prosecuted by the RSPSA and disappeared We have had a by-election since then and a labour councillor was elected. Margate fans can have a big say in who is elected by voting Labour.

Its the Westgate election result we want to go our way.Justice should be seen to be done but despite efforts by certain people to get him ousted it might prove to be to no avail. It's worth giving it a shot though.OOH I'd love to see him without a position on the council.

I'd be laughing my socks of for the rest of the year :97: :97: :97: :97: :97: :97: :97: :97: :97:

I am not voting for him or the Independent but only for people who live in Westgate.

Mind you 1 of my neighbours is standing as a Conservative in Dane Valley.

You should only vote for people who actually live in your ward.

Zorro a little bit worried that this is your second post and the 1st was a politcally motivated statement. Not worried about the voting as IMO its all a load of bo;;ocks anyway cos the word politician is short for " I'LL lie to your face without you even knowing it" the fact of the matter is MFC have tried to bring people/money/popularity to Margate with a successful Footbal team and have been countered at each and every turn - shame on any council and any such member of said council for stopping said attempt.:flame:

There is a couple of reasons that Zorro has only posted a couple of times & that is because his daughter is an active member of the forum & speaks for the family, the 2nd is computers don't come naturally for him!! lol & before you say that I haven't posted that much that is because I had to rejoin after changing my email address under a new name as couldn't seem to change it otherwise.

I am sure that this has been said before but I feel that it would be worth writing into the editor at the Isle of Thanet Gazette & getting as many letter published, pointing out the way we all feel as this should hopefully capture a wider audience.

I am sorry that you have such a bad opinion of all policitians becuase as in everything there are some good ones out there that do what they do for the good of the community & spend a lot of time doing this.

Needless to say I won't be voting Conservative.

Unfortunately my "Opinion" of politicians has been verified by such people as Cllr Simon Moores as he is a self publicising ignoramus that has no given right to dictate to the good people of thanet that pay his apparently "meagre" wages. We all want / need changes for our area and we are also living in an age where the legacy of the Labour Gov. has left us all glenching our wallets tighter than we have ever done before but it doesnt make it sit any better.

I have never posted on the forum before but I am so angry at this Tory administrations decision to turn down the development at Hartsdown Park. The Tory administration say they do not want this to be a political matter, but they have included the Hartsdown development in their manifesto on the hope that they will not lose votes at the forth coming Council elections around the Hartsdown and Westbrook Wards. It is time to prove to this Council that they will lose more votes through not passing these plans. I heard at the game yesterday that certain supporters are prepared to canvass against this Tory administration and even set up a group with other organizations who are dissatisfied with the current adminitration in an effort to remove the Tory's from office.

I would urge all Margate supporters to try and get friends and family to vote for any party other than the Tory administration at the forthcoming Council elections. I was unable to make the meeting last Thursday and was told by people that did attend how shambolic the meeting was. Some was attending a Council meeting for the first time and were completely shocked at how it was run. Some of these people were long standing Tory voters, who now feel they are unable to vote for this current Tory Council.

I understand that the Club was assured by this administration that if they could deliver a smaller hotel project that it would be dealt with under an amendment, but they have not kept to their word. In their manifesto they state they will not pass the development or give leases to the Club without public consultation, although also in their manifesto they state that they need to find funding to expand and improve sport in the area, a total contradiction.

This is all about votes and not what's best for the people of the area, for example the children who use the Learning Zone. I and others have decided not to vote for the Conservatives at the next election and maybe it is time for local people of the area to be heard and not be complacent.
