Smudge

Recommended Posts

Now you know it is near the witching hour for the person some love to hate/love.But I Must inform the 6 Referee Officials, who do invaluable work on a voluntary basis that you have one of the best Referees not only in the C.C.L.,BUT IN FOOTBALL IN GENERAL.Today at R.P.V. v Chertsey Town it was my pleasure to see a Referee in total control of the game from start to finish.2 Yellow Cards rightly administered,I told him so after the game. But what I was not aware of,that he donated his WHOLE MATCH FEE, via CHERTSEYTOWN to CRAIG BRADSHAW after his horrendous injury last week,WHAT A GENT.Also may I ADD that the Chertsey Players did the same,MY KIND OF PEOPLE.WILL THE C.C.L. BE PUTTING THERE HANDS IN THEIR POCKETS,OUT OF ALL THE FINE MONEY,THEY HAVE COLLECTED,I DOUBT IT.............WELL DONE RUSSELL AT LEAST YOU CARE.

Fair play to the ref and chertsey players, shows the high regard they hold the guy in.

What would you like the league to do Smudge, I bet there are at least 10 CCL players who this season have suffered bad injuries are the league expected to offer money to all if these? Would their be s criteria on what injuries they should offer on? Like I said at start great gesture by ref and chertsey but nothing to do with the league.

All the best to Craig by the way.

Any player participating at this level of football must surely be insured ??

this has been a thread on this forum before. it seems to be raised after an injury. it is always down to cost. and who pays, club or player.coffee%20%282%29.gif

Sorry to go over old ground then. Do players insure their cars ? House contents ? Pets ? In real terms a self employed builder with a ruptured ACL would prob be out of action for say 6 - 8 months or at least only able to carry out light duties. Average weekly earnings what £400 per week ? Its a no brainer if only for those fortunate enough to get some money at this level, part or all expense paid taken over the season. Like everything though “ it'll never happen to me “ is the more commonly heard phrase. Let's be frank, a general whip round would not even cover the months mortgage.

All players should take out personal coverage maybe out of their wages if paid......If not then they should do it out of their own money as it can financially ruin people .....

1ST RATE WEEBS, WE ACTUALLY AGREE ON SOMETHING...........LOL !

IF IT WAS UPTO ME, I WOULD MAKE IT COMPULSORY FOR PLAYERS TO HAVE INSURANCE IF THEY WANT TO PLAY. I KNOW WHAT YOU ALL ARE GOING TO SAY, PLAYERS CAN'T AFFORD IT, BUT LET ME SAY IN THE LONG RUN, SHOULD A PLAYER/S GET BADLY INJURED, YOU WILL HEAR THE WORDS UTTERED ' I WISH I WAS INSURED '.

PLAYERS THINK ITS A WASTE OF MONEY, BUT UNTIL IT HAPPENS TO YOU, YOU WILL THINK OTHERWISE.

NOW I'M NOT TO SURE WHAT THE POLICY IS ABOUT CLUBS INSURANCE COVERING PLAYERS IF THATS COMPULSORY OR NOT PERHAPS VP AND GF CAN ADVISE. WHEN I WAS PLAYING, WE HAD VISITS FROM INDEPENDANT SPORTS INSURANCE COMPANIES WHICH AT THAT TIME OFFERED A GOOD DEAL FOR PITTANCE BUT THAT MAY WELL HAVE CHANGED ??? ........INTERESTING,

MAY I TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO WISH YOU WELL CRAIG - GET WELL SOON, I'VE SEEN YOU A FEW TIMES THIS SEASON, AND YOU SEEM TO ENJOY THE BANTER WITH THE OPPOSING SUPPORTERS WHICH IS GOOD TO SEE !

Isn't it strange when you have two seasoned referees acting as assistants, and a young, up and coming (?) referee officiating in the middle ????

The conversation in the bar at Meadowbank, just before it closed after Bookhams home game against Banstead yesterday would certainly have raised a few eyebrows, especially young Smudgers !!!

Nice havinng some of the officials staying for a good bevvy !!

Do you know what, we live in a very difficult world at the moment and we are all fighting battles on a daily basis, including me. The act of this referee, Russell Chant, was totally unexpected and brilliant. We as a nation find it easy to bring news of doom and gloom at the earliest opportunity but good news is not normally interesting so doesn't get reported. On behalf of Chertsey and myself especially thankyou, it was an amazing act and totally appreciated

CCFL rules require clubs to arrange Personal Accident cover for players. So Chersey need to review their policy to see what claim can be made for this injured player.

We have an accident insurance policy at Sandhurst as I got a little bit when I broke my ankle, nowhere near enough to pay the bills, but the wife was happy as it ended up going to a weekend away.

I am in a fortunate position that I can work from home and therefore when I broke my ankle, I only had two days off sick which was for the operation.

Players should perhaps look at individual insurance but it is very expensive. I was chatting to a taxi driver and he pays something like £1000 per year to cover himself if he got injured away from work.

I am sure there are companies out there who can offer a discounted premiums for 16+ players.

Still generous act from the referee.

The cost is risk based, on age, sex, occupation and whether a smoker. So as most footballers are young the risk is fairly low depending on their job, especially if they don't smoke. The cost of income replacement, which will basically pay an income to you each month until you can return to work is relatively low. For a taxi driver to pay £80 a month, he must be a middle aged smoker. The cover is designed to kick in when your sick pay at work finishes. Remember that is also covers for any other accident as well, so if you were injured at work or in the street etc

When I played football, my premium was £10 a month for a £1000 a month cover, with a week defferred period (meaning it doesn't start paying out until I've been off work for 6 weeks as thats how long my work sick pay was). Football is not a high risk sport to the point you don't even need to declare it, unlike skiing for example that will raise the premium.

Hello,

It's Russell here.... A friend tipped me off about this thread and, nice as it is to be praised like this, I'm afraid you've got the wrong man!

There was an error in the matchday programme at Raynes Park on Saturday, which meant that I was listed as Referee rather than as one of the Assistants. The man who deserves praise for both his performance and his generosity is actually Michael Oakes, rather than me.

Thanks for the kind words; it's nice to know that some fans appreciate that refs are (sometimes) decent human beings. Michael didn't mention his donation to us, which speaks volumes for what a good guy he is.

Best wishes to Craig in his recovery, and hopefully Smudge can change this thread's title.
