Leighton 3 - 1 Slough

Recommended Posts

Not a good performance with too many chances in the first half missed.

Looked like the starting 11 were not that bothered if they made the playoffs or not - it was only when the subs came on, that the likes of Sooner, Abbey and one or two others looked up for it.

I will not criticise individual players but some were shoocking.

The ref had the usual mixed game, but it effected both teams equally so no excuses there.

Not the best , I am affraid !

But lets not panic ... still well in our own hands right now...

and do remember Leighton have only been beat 2 times at home this season and they also beat Hitchin a few weeks back... so keep the faith...

Its getting a bit nerve jangling again !

Its up to management now to phyche up and motivate the team for tuesday The opposition has only one win (against a very poor team) in their last 7 games so they shouldnt present a problem to a team that really wants the win. Other results today mean that (subject to a post season reprieve) SYCOB are relegated so if we have to go to the last game needing something there wont be extra pressures on us. Matt there shouldnt be any pessimists now. A win on Tuesday finishes off all other teams bar Rugby They can achieve 74 points max Win on Tuesday and we need just one point from the six available from our last two games.

Not great today, but still in our own hands. 4 points from the remaining 3 games, all technically at home, should see us in the playoffs. That is with Rugby winning their 2 remaining games to so if they slip up then it is even easier.

Unfortunately i couldn't make it today, instead i was at the County Ground watching Swindon getting beat yet again. Thanks to Twitter keeping me up to date. I was able to follow things at Leighton. Can't make Tuesday either as in Yorkshire but hoping we have it all wrapped up by my next game against SYCOB.

I have made sure i am available for both playoff dates, so hope that is not tempting fate.

The turning point was the penalty which we missed. I'm very firmly in the camp that says you should never miss the target entirely which Danny unfortunately managed to do.

After that and the failure to take a couple of good chances we fell to a decent side who didn't do anything spectacular except be well organised and catch us coming forward. Sadly that's happened quite a lot this season. What was disappointing was the fact we failed to put the Leighton keep who was clearly struggling under any sort of pressure.

they won fairly comfortably in the end without having really to do much that was the most annoying thing

we seemed a bit short of ideas 2nd half and we had no real obvious shape players were playing all over the place with nobody really sure where they was supposed to be

silly freekicks conceded out wide yet again costs us a goal. Bully was unlucky very nearly stopped Perkins bullet header

missing our penalty really did seem to inspire Leighton who looked pretty sluggish at the start

we desperately need Sweeney and Sinclair back. Byrne done well at right back on tuesday but presumably was injured today. Seeby did ok but not ideal person to have playing there.

Looking at the video I'm not convinced that the Leighton penalty was valid. That said I'm not sure Bullivant really needed to come out like he did either which gave the guy the opportunity to go over him. You also have to question why a yellow card was awarded following one penalty but not the other. That could have had a bearing given that the Leighton keeper picked up another in the first half.

Overall though, we didn't deserve to win so you sort of make your own luck.
