Thamesmead v ETFC

A decent performance against a poor Thamesmead side who did come back at Town in the second half but didn't really trouble Rob apart from 2 saves of note. Good to see Izci and Aaron coming on from the bench....they set up the penalty right at the end. Great finish from Morts for his goal. I think Walid had his best game for the Town today since his return, the cross he put over for Gunz's goal stood out.

The crowd figure of 79 is the lowest Saturday League crowd the Town have ever played in front of since formation and the second lowest in the Ryman North today (when was the last time that happened???)

Match higlights are below (inc all the goals) -

With both Harlow & Wingate facing Waltham Forest in one of there remaining games you would expect them both to beat WF. That would then put Harlow out of reach from us and leave Wingate 6 points clear with 2 games left and they would have to lose both and hope the teams inbetween us drop points too - Sudbury, Grays etc.

I know its still mathmatically possible but i'm affraid losing 14 games we dont deserve to be in the play offs. If we had drawn half the games we lost we would be right in the mix.

Yes your right, but we've had circumstances to deal with which has led to our current situation. I also agree that it is a long shot for us getting into a play off spot. However (I bet you knew there was gonna be a however) I think Harlow are out of reach, but Wingate have Heybridge and Brentwood away to play, are you saying neither of those teams can beat Wingate??? I'd say it's not out the question. The others i.e Sudbury, grays etc will drop points. And we have to get out 9 points out of 9. It's if's and but's which are not in our favour.

as for losing 14 games-Yeah it's not a good achievement especially the Ware away game and we are paying for the pre-xmas form where we lost half a dozen on the bounce starting when we were top of the league. However (I know, here he goes again) in other leagues you've got FC United who avearage 2,000 for home games sitting in 3rd place 3pts clear of 6th place in there own rights with 3 games remaining having lost 13 games. it's a case of win our next 3 games and let's see what happens.

The only thing we can ever do anything about is our own games so stop worrying about others and get behind our team.

Thamesmead Town (0) 0

Enfield Town (2) 3 Hope3, Morton 24, Wallace 78

Attendance 79

Enfield got off to a flying start with an early goal from Liam Hope. Richard Morton’s strike put them in control, and Thamesmead were looking like they would be on the receiving end of a heavy defeat. An improved second half performance from the home side saw them battle back into the game, but Enfield keeper Rob Blackburne was rarely troubled. Adam Wallace killed off the game with the third and Enfield finished the stronger of the two sides, thanks in some part to enthusiastic debuts from Aaron Cato and Isci Eren.

Enfield pressed from the start and when Scott Mulholland's headed off the line, the ball was played back in to the danger zone by Morton, where Liam Hope swept it into the back of the net. Enfield pushed for a second, Hope hitting behind after a run into the box, and Morton putting a half shot wide. When Walid Matata was pulled back by Mulholland on the edge of the box, Rudi Hall drew a good save from Mott when he curled the ball round the wall. The second goal came when Wallace laid the ball in to Morton his first time strike saw Mott beaten the ball and the ball went in off the post. Matata was working tirelessly in the heat and Enfield were forcing some good work from Mott between the Thamesmead posts. Dan Forward saw a shot come back off the post and battled well to regain possession, before Mott did well to save Hope’s shot. At the other end Thamesmead were struggling to make an impression. A good ball in to Stuart King on the edge of the box came to nothing when Dave Kendall prevented him from turning goalwards. Joe Stevens then headed wide a Michael Bardle cross, then another good ball in to King saw him quickly closed down by three Enfield defenders. But Thamesmead were starting to move forward and a good chance for Raphael Momudu saw his close range header blocked by Rob Blackburne. King then met a cross on the run, heading over, as the home side threatened to force a way back into the game. King was denied again late in the half when his shot on the turn was deflected over. Wallace could have killed the game when through to the near post but chose to cut back to Matata instead.

Thamesmead started the second half brightly, but were unable to make the most of their possession. Hall was denied when Thamesmead’s Richard Avery cleared his free kick, and Mott held a header from Matata. Chances from Jake Burnham and Danny Wells failed to trouble the Enfield goal, and it was effectively game over when a superb cross from Matata gave Wallace a free header leaving Mott no chance. Thamesmead kept going, and a good free kick from Ashley Proberts almost paid off for Gabriel Momudu. Harrison Carnegie’s ball back in from the right was eventually snapped up by Blackburne. Proberts tried for himself moments later, but Blackburne saved well. Enfield’s late substitutes combined well almost immediately, Eren sending the ball wide to Cato, whose cross drew a handball for a late penalty. It was a rare occurrence when Mott denied Hall from the spot, but there could still have been a fourth goal as Enfield put together a string of corners late on, Morton only denied by a good save.

Thamesmead Town: Sam Mott, Raphael Momudu ( Harrison Carnegie 45), Ashley Proberts, Danny Moore, Nick Davis, Richard Avery, Scott Mulholland, Lea Dawson (Jake Burnham 45), Stuart King, Gabriel Momudu, Marcus Perona (Danny Wells 45).

Subs Not Used: Peter Deadman, Keith McMahon.

Booked: Mulholland, King.

Enfield Town: Rob Blackburne, Dan Forward, Michael Bardle, Craig McKay, Dave Kendall, Richard Morton, Adam Wallace(Isci Eren 85), Rudi Hall, Walid Matata, Liam Hope(Aaron Cato 85), Joe Stevens(Jey Siva 75).

Our ressies had 6 16/17 yr olds playing too, it's ok though we told them to becareful when they shower at Cheshunt..................................................Apparently the water's really hot :futbolbud2:
