Upto this season Witham Town have been playing in the Capital league Eastern Division, against 5 conference South sides,

1.Braintree Town to be conference national next season.

2.Bromley, Ebbsfleet, Bishop Stortford & Chelmsford City, plus four Ryman teams of Canvey, Billericay, Brentwood & Gt Wakering, if the club resigned from the Capital to play ESL i would be deeply disapointed, with all due respect to the teams in it, but if the club wish to progress up the pyramid, personally think it would be a bad move for the club.

At the start of the season Braintree away, they used an ex Colchester utd player who needed match fitness before joining their first team, Ebbsfleet & B.Stortford away also put on a strong side of first teamers / squad playrs as their first team had a blank day. This develops players.

To the esl, these are my feelings and not the clubs.... comprendo.

If it's good enough for GWR and Waltham Abbey I don't see why shouldn't be good enough for Witham.Capital League games include a lot of travelling, the club loses £ 100 or more a game and what for? Most of these youngsters that played Capital League football are not even good enough to break into an ESL first team.I call it pansies football.Better sticking to a local ressies league, less money for the referees, less travelling, and no fear of being kicked to pieces by an Olympian League side formed of players that can't make an ESL first team and are eager to kick the lamp out of ya.Ridgeons ressies is fine for Witham, given your location.

we're now getting many former capitol league players coming to Basildon through a contact, now got about four ex hornchurch boys, maybe at witham reserves the boys get a chance to move on to the first team at most teams they dont,at canvey, billericay, hornchurch the ressie teams are almost seen as a separate entity.

To be fair Coachie there are a lot of good players in the Olympian, particularly in the Senior Div that would walk into most ESL sides, but don't want to play at that level for whatever reason. Also, from what I've seen in the ESL this season, there are many players playing in the ESL that wouldn't even get into an Olympian side.

That said, if all the ESL ressie teams (plus Waltham Abbey) do pull out of the Olympian for next season, then there are going to be big gaps in the league and the senior Divs will probably drop back to 3 divisions (Senior, 1 & 2).

You're obviously basing that comment on personal experience Enrico, which is absolutely fair enough. What team/s do you feel are more physical than the rest of us ?

Exactly mate,it's based on personal experience.Last year during the weather bad spell,we invited a top Olympian side for a friendly at Chadwell Heath and we ended up with players injured right left and centre(our fringe players still beat them if you wanna know). Two seasons before we played another Olimpian side and I won't mention who were the management team but I still remember one of my young players leaving the pitch with studs marks on his chest. That's why we don't play any friendlies with Olimpian sides anymore and prefer playing Ryman sides that try to play football and haven't got former convicts in their teams.Hookey if those players were good enough then why they don't play higher?I know the answer mate because they don't train and just have to turn up on Saturdays without many mid-week games. It's called comfort zone and being a big fish in a little pond plus the pace is slower at Step 7,much slower. The reason those ESL sides are pulling out of that League is because you can't play a first team player coming back from injury that has played more than 4 1st team games I heard.Obviously there are few exceptions but I still have to see them.Remember is 2 steps below for a reason.

Don't doubt the reasons you state Coachie but that doesn't mean they don't have the ability. For many players their work commitments mean thay can't get to training or midweek games, at least not regularly.

Not sure what ex cons have to do with it, you have ex cons in the Premiership and the Football League.

Coach I think it is a little unfair tarring every Olympian league side with the same brush. There are plenty of thugs playing in the Essex Senior League. Let's not runaway with the idea that the ESL is the home of the beautiful game either. Barring the top 2 clubs I would say the standard is at an all time low.

The fact Hullbridge are not bottom of the league gives you an indication of how bad some of the teams are now cheesy%20(2).gif

Runwell haven't missed a training session in 2 seasons Enrico (even trained in the snow) and i know we weren't the only team to do so. It's a shame you won't play Olympian sides because I think you wouls be surprised at the level of some of the teams. Castle United and Old Southendians for example play great football. It also speaks volumes that a small village club like Runwell we can attract the likes of Redbridge and Canvey Island for pre season friendlies
