Arlesey v Slough

I thought we did OK last night, played most of the football and overall probably deserved to get a point.

First goal was a mis-judgement by Bully when he parried a ball to an Arlesey player when it was clearly going wide.

Second goal was from a cross from a needless foul and a free header in the area (how many times have we said that this season).

Only real critisism is that we continued to cross the ball into their area which was either too near the keeper or cleared by their big defenders instead of trying to get at their pedestrian full backs especially their right back who was certtainly a weak link and a bit of a plodder.

We need to raise our game again on Saturday against Leighton who will be fresh after having no game this week.

Didn't get to the game.Do you know why David Woozley was missing,Reading Rebel? Thought he has been a far steadier influence of late.

Not convinced about Rob Bullivant yet, though. Haven't seen anything to make me think he is this fantastic shot-stopper that the Windsor fans said he was and think that he appears to be lacking confidence [maybe because of his long term injury at Windsor, season before last? ]. I do think he has a bit of prescence in goal and the Slough defence has responded to that since he arrived but as I just said, not seen anything to write home about yet.

Richard Hayward in the Arlesley goal, now that is someone I rate as a keeper. How was he last night?

I understand Woozey is a fireman? and that was maybe why he was not there. Perkins is not up to the same standard as a player or capitain compared to Woozey and there were a number of occasions last night where this showed through.

Richard "big nose" Hayward is by far the best keeper in this leauge and as per usual bossed his area and looked confident - though his only slip up gave us the goal!

Richard Hayward was the best keeper in the league last season and this season.

Last night he was excellent and won every ball that we crossed into the area.

No idea where Woozley or Sweeney was. Certainly missed them last night.

I thought we played well against a very organised and big team. We probably deserved a point but we just couldn't get our crosses into the box without the keeper grabbing them. I think we were lacking something upfront but we kept trying and were the better team in the second half, playing all the football.

Against lesser teams the goals will come if we can play the football like we did last night. It is still in our hands, so no real need to be disappointed about the loss.

Good to have a bit of banter with a few Hitchin fans, very funny and all about the spirit of the non-league game, which Arlesey seems to struggle to take part in.

Unlucky Slough, let's get back to winning ways on Saturday! 5 points needed from 4 games.

Yeah exactly. Luckily we have done so well of late results wise that this loss does not really affect our chances of the playoffs much.

We can still get to the playoffs before the last weekend and have enough time to prepare.

I would like to see us away to Biggleswade in the playoff semi final as we know we can beat them where as Hitchin is always going to be dodgy

think the crosses we put in would have caused much more trouble IF Haywood didnt come to the penalty spot to get every cross. not sure any other keeper comes for every cross like that in this league

when we kept the ball down we played some great stuff but Arlesey forced us into the long ball with their pressure up the pitch and their centre backs are huge. as ReadingRebel said Burnell was excellent considering how much smaller he is compared to their defenders. he held the ball superbly at times, brought it down on his chest and wriggled away from defenders consistently.

How frustrating. In the first half I thought we were good and put them under pressure. Both Arlesey goals were disappointing to concede. Someone referred to Bully as a good shot stopper and that's right, he is. He made one brilliant save second half BUT the chance came because he didn't come for the cross in the first place that gave the guy the shot on goal. My view is that a keeper that size has to dominate his area far more than is the case. Just looked at how often our crosses were dealt with at the opposite end.

I thought Byrne did especially well out of position and in the first half Ben Porter did great also. Arlesey snuffed that out second half as we tired and we didn't create too many chances unfortunately.

It's strange how some clubs give off a persona. Hitchin, as an example, seem like a decent club with nice friendly people. Arlesey on the other hand are thoroughly unlikeable. One guy made some sarcastic remark at the start of the second half about us not having a ground. Wow. Comedy genius although it begs the question how would they know what ground we have or haven't got, there was bugger all Arlesey fans at Holloways Park. I can't think of too many places I like going less than Arlesey but it is close to Luton and that's never a plus point.

Overall I didn't expect to get anything out of this game but still came away disappointed that we could on a different night have nicked a point. Who knows what would have happened had we carried on at 1-0 up.......

I thought that we played well last night considering the forced changes (due to injuries). Also we have now scored twice against Haywood which is better than most sides considering Arlesey have conceeded only 32 goals all season.

They are probably the best defensive/ shut out side I have seen this season, it was very hard for us to create anything and it wasn't as if we werent trying.

How their number 8 stayed on the whole game is beyond me, always leading with the elbow and constantly fouling us. Their manager was also very fustrating last night pretending not to know what a football was every time the ball got kicked over. The refery didnt really know when to give a free kick either.

Having said that I think we deserved a point (though probably not all 3). my MOTM probably Byrne as he played very well at right back and every time he got the ball he spread it very well. But burnell also did excellently holding the ball up every time against defenders who were atleast a foot taller than him.

Nice to see supporters from another club just a shame they weren't from our opposition.

Some pathetic postings on here, you have been listening to your close chums from Hitchin too much !! Fact is you think you are a bigger club than you are. You are in 5th place because you are not good enough to finish higher. Get over it.

At least we have a ground. Last time I visited Slough it wasn't much to write home about either !

If you come up against Biggleswade in the play offs they will beat you anyway, they held us to a draw twice and were a much better team.

Is that the same Biggleswade who we beat 5-1 away?
