Must say I am very disappointed with the turnout at Guildfords FREE DAY in AID OF HELP FOR HEROES,think the crowd was 121,but even more disappointing was the amount raised under £300.That equates to about £2.50 per head. This beggars the Question,do the people of Guildford and surrounding areas, deserve a First Class Club in their area, that supports a very worthwhile cause.Maybe next time charge them to come in,£6 and £3 that way by even getting 80 people, you would raise £400,and the Club could donate that.

My wife & I were at the Guildford City v Sandhurst Town game and I commented on the very low turnout. I would be surprised if there were more that 80/90 actual spectators. We donated £12, so based on the published attendance this must mean a number of spectators probably paid nothing. I have no axes to grind, but must say surprised the Arena has achieved a step 4 grading, given the general standard of facilities. There is zero atmosphere at this venue which does not help.

Difficult one to do. Where did the guys from Guildford expect to get the extra people from ? Where did they market it ? Did they engage with the local community ?

I am not having a go am just interested as to what Guildford put into it.

WHY ARE YOU SURPRISED MIDDLEMAN THAT THE SPECTRUM ARENA HAS ACHIEVED STEP 4 GRADING ? ANYTHING SPECIAL OR JUST IN GENERAL ?

DID YOU GO INTO THEIR PORTACABIN CLUBHOUSE AND WHATS IT LIKE ?

EXACTLY..NO ATMOSPHERE MIDDLEMAN, THATS WHY I DON'T LIKE GOING THERE AND CROYDON ARENA SO SOUL;ESS. THATS PROBABLY WHY GUILDFORD DON'T GET THAT MANY SUPPORTERS WHEREAS AT ANOTHER VENUE I WOULD IMAGINE THEY WOULD GET A LARGER SUPPORT ?

I would think that a town of Guildford size (around 67,000) would and should expect more that 121 people turning up to the match on Saturday. I would have expected them to advertise in the Surrey Ad (local paper) and maybe have contacted the local schools (at least 4 or 5 within 2 miles of the Spectrum), also maybe match day posters in the Spectrum? Maybe they did all this, and this shows the lack of interest by the general population of Guildford, which is a shame!!

hi i echo all your comments the match was well advertised in local press and radio ,the surrey ad have been brilliant in giving the guildford public the run down over the weeks on the spectrun arena improvements ,i must admit my first city game was the free one last season at home to north greenford ,as a armchair follower of the club in its different guises over the years i decided to get of my [****!!****] and support my local club (ive only missed 4 games this season ) my point is a few hundered more footy fans like me would be great for the club ! yes the town does deserve a first class club ,maybe a bit more publicity would help weve had some good turnouts in the vase and fa cup games this season ! but as smudge has said maybe it is a sign of the times ive noticed some step 4 gates are no better then the ccl this season .

maybe it is a sign of the times ive noticed some step 4 gates are no better then the ccl this season .

And yet some step 5 clubs are seeing massive increase and are getting hundreds in a week. St Neots v Kings Lynn had 1500 at the game, the return match next week is expected to have a 2000 attendance and that's at the most expensive step 5 club in the country (£8 for an adult).

If only we knew the magic formula of how to make our clubs fashionable.

Loads of clubs have tried all sorts to get the punters in. It works for some teams, it doesn't work for others. Mansfield Town tried a 'pay what you like' day earlier this season. The attendance was up by thousands on their average but the gate receipts were down. It was reported some people only paid 25p instead of the usual £17 or whatever they charge. Even with all the stuff those extra people may have bought inside the ground it clearly didn't work as they've not repeated the exercise although they are having a £5 entry day soon.

And of course Conference crowds are at an all time high and crowds in the top four divisions are at historical highs at the moment. And people say that level of football is overpriced. If the likes of Arsenal can sell 60000 tickets for every game at their prices and have 40000 people on their season ticket waiting list then that's clearly not true.

I'd like to blame the culture of watching football from an armchair or down the pub as the reason people won't go and watch their local teams at lower levels any more but I'm not sure that's the only reason.

V.P.C.T.F.C.,Crowds are at historical highs at the moment, what a load of nonsense.Prove that statement with facts,or maybe my days of watching Crystal Palace and Dulwich back in the 60's were just a dream.Yeah record (lowest) attendances broken every week in Div 4 now.Bet even, the likes of Luton ,Mansfield,in the Conference are pleased with their 6000 crowds they get now, rather than their 15/20,000 they used to get.

Non-league football is getting more coverage now than it probably ever has, but I say that as someone brought up on the Premier League etc.

Here's a statistic for you; Guildford City's average home attendance is up by over 30% on last season. That is thanks largely to some big crowds for the FA Cup and Vase, but bear in mind that we had a few 100+ attendances last season as well.

I understand what your saying Smudge, but if Luton and Mansfield are getting crowds at 6000 a week, at £15iish a ticket that's £90k per game, so no wonder they are happy. It would be interesting to see who the best supported team in the CCL are in terms of crowds per week. I know it's on the CCL website but is that up to date?

I can give you a full run down of the average gates up to date, when I get home tonight. Off the top of my head in Div 1, Bedfont Sports are averaging about 65 per game, Knaphill are fifth in the table averaging about 49. Farnham Town are well down the table, Westfield are in the top 6 along with Warlingham (I think).

Feltham, Hayes Gate & FNE are all towards to bottom at around 20. I'll post full details tonight and on the Prem as well.

Nice to see Cove winning something again this season.

2 seasons ago it was the Southern Combination cup, last season was the league cup and this season it is the worst supported award!

Interesting stats there! I do find it hard to believe that those lowest attendances are correct. Bedfont take a decent support with them and their game against Hayes and being a pretty local game, well 3 people is staggering. As is the Farleigh V Bedfont match, two teams in the top 7 pretty much through the season will obviously be a decent game and again attract more than 6!

I know these can't be 'officially' proved but if clubs are inputting wrong false attendances then surely make them believable haha.

Thanks for posting Knapmeister
