Swearing at games

You asked for my opinion, so I will give it.

On Saturday, I was pretty put out by what you were saying. My son is of an age where he repeats most things he hears, and I'm just glad he didn't pick up on what you were saying. Next time I'm at a game with him, and hear you doing the same, I'll probably come and have a quiet word in your ear.

I know I've not been a saint on the terraces, but most of the time I've recognised that in the ranks of supporters there are lots of younger fans. I became friends with people like Kay and Ian who would bring their kids to the matches, and although they were not my little ones, I didn't want to be effing and blinding in front of them. As such, I have tried to keep swearing to a minimum, which is probably just as well as at one point Ian mentioned to me he thought his daughters first word might be something I had brought to the terraces! In the heat of the moment, I'll turn the air blue as much as anybody else, and would do so again (though less likely when I've got my 2 year old with me), but swearing repeatedly to try to impress your mates seems a bit pointless, and they made it pretty clear they didn't see the funny side of it either.

I've no problem with you wanting to create a bit of atmosphere. The more people who do that the better. If and when we reach the playoffs, I'll be sure to be there in full voice for the semi final, minus my son. As I'm sure those who went to Hitchin for the playoff last season, I can still generate one hell of a noise when in the mood.

Keep supporting the Rebels, just lay off the swearing.

Indeed....one of Scarlett's first sayings was......"BUSH PIG". For those newer supporters, BFR will explain I'm sure! I also remember Kay telling me the story of how she heard Tom as a 4 or 5 year old singing "the referee's a w*nker" at Pro Evoluion on the PS2!

I agree with what a lot of people have said...swearing is ok as long as it is taken as part of the game and with consideration to those around. Football is one of a few things where people can vent their frustrations and enjoy themselves, at the same time in some cases, so you can't take that away from people. I know I enjoy the banter behind the goal and the chance to break free of the restraints of work.

I assume this has come around as a result of Rooney's ban last week...I think that there is no need for a ban on swearing, it's over the top.

Besides, there is a lot of stuff said behind the goal that could be considered offensive that doesn't contain any swearing!

chanting it to a 30stone keeper isn't going to win you a BAFTA award anyways you [****!!****]!

Swearing on an internet messageboard isn't going to win you any awards for objective discussion is it? Or make you any friends for that matter.

:492:

I'll swear at you as much as i want, i don't go on this page to seek friends, your comment was not needed and i replied to it back in your manner, don't like it do you?

Thank you very much for your opinion, you're one of the few that were not pleased with my words during that match but still managed to reply in a rightful manner, than you very much, i know it got on peoples nerves and i wont do it again and i will keep swearing to a minimum. My problem is that i've only ever go to a match with thousands of fans e.g. Watford at home and away games, swearing is heard in all corners of the stands, and then when i go to a Slough game which is one every month or more i generally swear, it's a habit, the game before Northgreen i went to Coventry and they have a very large keeper and it just got stuck in my head and even though the keeper was about 1 stone i still chanted it several times.

Sorry about my swear not to just you and your son but to all slough town fans.

I seem to have touched a nerve! Your comments were not needed, and only served to make you look like a fool.

With regards to "replied back to it back in your manner", I don't believe I have ever sworn at you on this messageboard (or at a game, as I don't know who you are).

If this is your idea of intelligent discussion, then I'm not sure I'd want you as a friend anyway.
