Essex Premier Cup Final

 

The match at Thurrock F.C. before over 400 spectators started brightly with play swinging from end to end.

 

However after 15 minutes the match developed into a turgid affair played mainly down the wings with an interminable number of throw-ins. Neither side was able to penetrate the defences and neither goalkeeper had to make any real saves other than plucking the ball out of the air.

 

It was not until the 85th minute that a low cross from the right wing was played into the penalty area and tapped home by Billy Whatling from 3 yards out to give Frenford Senior a 1 – 0 victory over Runwell Hospital. This at least saved the spectators having to watch a further 30 minutes football.

 

This was certainly not one of the better Premier cup finals and one can only hope that the leagues only finals turn out to be more entertaining.

To be honest mate I think both teams really tried to go for the win but both defences were on good form. Can't argue with the result, Frenford had more class than us (you just have to look at who they had playing to see that). The last sentence was a bit over the top and uncalled for. Makes the person who wrote it look like a bit of an amateur, but hey, if thet's their opinion then fine
