This poxy park debate.

I see that in the local bulletin which goes out to subscripted homes around the Hornchurch & Upminster area, that Councillor Hawthorn has a little dig at AFC Hornchurch for training in the park,in her words "The adult team of AFC Hornchurch, who despite having their own facilities, choose to practice on the cricket ground in Upminster Park and not the designated football pitches, this has caused quite a bit of damage to this part of the park"

This is a complete load of cobblers and i wonder if Councellor Hawthorn has actually visited this part of the park,as many of us have and there is no such damage whatsoever. What is also factually incorrect is that we do not choose to practice there,we chose to practice there on one occassion,by saying we choose to practice there suggests that we are there every session, which is wrong. We could not use our facilities because the ground was waterlogged, the park, and i should know because i was there was absolutely fine before, during and after and the football pitches were not used because there were games on there,or shall we just kick the kids off like big bullies,i suppose this would be ok.Seeing as Councillor Hawthorns brother gets a privelaged seat in our directors box every game and is obviously titled within the club, then perhaps he would like to put his sister right in this, will wait with baited breath.

Mine definately,my old man and mum couldn't give a toss about Hornchurch but they were bemused that a councillor should bother getting involved in such a pathetic matter as a training session in the park when there are a whole lot more pressing matters that councillors should be attending to at the moment.

Lets face it,this whole episode stinks of a few miserable kill joys who have nothing better to do with their time than moan about something which is quite frankly pathetic

Yes they do,any many of them leave their dogs faeces on the floor instead of picking them up and disposing of them in the correct manner, this is a far more worthwhile complaint than 11 footballers running around on the grass, let's face it,if a young child picks up dog sh1t and eats it I should imagine they would be quite ill.

To be fair Rob, most of the dog owners that use Harold Lodge Park are responsible people who pick up any mess left by their dogs and I would imagine the same can be said about Upminster Park as well. Unfortunately the same cannot be said about the junior football teams that use the park (HL) and tend to leave all their rubbish for others to pick up.

Have to say I'm surprised that Councillor Hawthorne has taken a negative attitude as I always found her to be one of the few councillors that actually knew what day of the week it was, and her massive majority suggest that the people of Upminster think the same. Might be an idea to ask why only Upminster Park has this problem as every other park I visit has plenty of football activity.

Because some of the people who live around upminster park are snobs, has always been a problem in upminster tbh, especially with the elder population

With regards to rubbish, the biggest problem the park faces is vandalism and litter by youths once the weather turns nice. These issues go almost Un noticed to be honest so to target football is a complete cop out.As for dog faeces, yes the majority of dog walkers do abide by the law but still some choose to ignore it

It's a fcking joke to be honest, the amount of bullsh1t which has been told about this subject by councillors and friends of upminster park,I mean what the fck do these friends of upminster park actually do,my guess is they are a bunch of glorified dog walkers who because they take their dogs there daily think they have a right to play god over the park even to the extent of lying to get their own way,I think we should organise a massive game of football at the park, fck them

To be honest,I am not too sure the cricket club go near that part of the park in February, where the lads trained (once) probably goes no more than 10 yards onto where the cricket outfield is usually outlined in the summer, pretty sure that in the winter there is no actual boundary due to the White lines fading,if anything you can see it only faintly.Anyhow, for many years the hockey club played in the outfield every weekend, two games a weekend and there was never any problem with the outfield that I can remember.

Quite a few of the local parks have friends groups who mainly do jobs like cleaning up and pruning shrubs etc, jobs that people used to get paid for doing. Would love to see the faces of some of these do gooders if they lost their own jobs because someone is prepared to work for nothing.

Let's face it,just because they plant a few shrubs and tidy up it does not give them the right to tell people what they can and can't do in a public park, that's the problem with these groups, they start to think they own the parks. If they were that bothered they would set up vigilante groups at night to make sure people can walk through there safely after dark
