Waltham Abbey 0 Enfield Town 1

It is always close when town play Waltham Abbey. Town were the better team and the goal from Lee Smith was well struck and the keeper had no chance. Chants of are you Beckham in disguise seem to bring a smile to Lee Smith. The heat of 30 degrees + was hot on the fans so what it was like for the players is hard to imagine as they ran their legs off. Ref was OK.

Ian Cooper is out with and injury so it was back to experimnting with Kevin Riley, Simon Miller and Wayne Grant up front in support of Lee Smith.

We came, we worked hard and we finally conquered.

The atmosphere was subdude, probably down to the hot weather..nice to get a win with so many players out.

Now onto the offical......In the first half the Abbey No5 launched a waist-high tackle on Smith, and then proceeded to tread all over him....The ref's verdict was to talk to both players(Unbelievable)..To escape a red card would have been very fortunate, but to not even recieve a booking was laughable.......Also ,I wasn't counting, but i'm sure the foul count in the second half, was something like 30-2 against the Town.

Somethimes i think Cleggy's eyesight is about as good as his hats....(No offence Clegg).

Nice to see Derek Bird settling in so well at the Abbey.

I agree with you Norm, as FB was pointed out to me on Sat, it's not hard to reason y he thinks the ref's are all pants. Most people from where I was actually said the ref used common sense, and thats not something you see too often. If only fans could take a step back when it comes to officials and look at both sides. Kev Curran ain't no Premiership ref for sure but theres a lot worse......lay off em I say.

PS Are Town really that Angelic? 30-2.... I don't think so!

For my two pennies worth I thought it was an OK game. Town were by far the better team in the first half but things were far more even in the second. I thought Abbey were a good footballing side but were a bit light physically. As for the ref it was in the second half were he was a disaster. In the first half I thought he let the game flow quite well. First time I've seen Lee Smith play and I cannot wait to see if he can forge a good partnership up front with Ian Cooper.

Well done the Town.

I see you have signed Billy Cove as well, he is a quality striker. I played with him at Pennant and he gets lots of goals. He might look fat but he is quick and scores from everwhere with both feet.

I thought the ref was ok, he is one of the few you can actually talk to. I thought we were a bit unlucky not to get anything. Apart from our keeper fumbling at the end he did not actually have one save to make.
