Often put up as a model of how Football Players should act,2 Red Cards, 1 for Head Butting a Player twice, the other for throwing 2 punches. And who did the Manager and Supporters blame, none other than the Ref.This game was played at the Highest level of this Sport,

Always quoted as the paragons of virtue.

Does anybody really think that Simon Shaw comes off the field at Twickenham and says to Martin Johnson.

" I say gaffer those French officials had a wonderfull game today and any mistakes they made well they are only human so I expect it will go our way next time"

The difference is that in an extremely complex game ( un- necessarily so in my opinion) the referee enforces the laws and the players "respect" the decision.

By repect I mean that if they don't they get marched back 10 yards and it costs the team ,

The next time you see a referee or linesman being harangued by half a dozen players and nothing happens human nature will infer that it is ok to do so next time.

Not a rant at referees at all but this whole rugby good football bad seems hypocritical to me.

Also the only reason they call the ref. Sir is because at their Prep / independent school the referee was a teacher!!!!

Also come on England for the RWC!!!!!

I personally think in Internationals especially, that the Radio Mike is a great deterrent also for Players not abusing Refs decisions, for the whole world to hear. You would need to be a Mug to swear on National T.V. surely, before the watershed. They would throw the book at you, surely.

Someone forgot to tell the yobbish Mr Rooney!! Some years ago The FA did experiment with an open mic. on TV. The referee was Harrow School master David Ellery. I well remember him trying, in his very educated voice, to tell Tony Adams would he 'please stop calling the linesman a cheat'. The rest of the game was so peppered with swear words that the idea was quickly dropped. But have to agree with Smudge, would be very interesting to try again. Suggest would see a steep increase in profits of red card manufacturers.
