Burnham 0 Slough 2

Recommended Posts

3 points once again, first half we were all over them, creating several chances. Second half we let them back into it and it was a more even game, and chances were more limited.

Goals from Swift (straight from a free kick) and Sonner (off a Coyne free kick).

Well done Slough, especially with Rugby losing today, but will be a very difficult game on Tuesday.

Great start to the game with two goals inside 10 or 12 minutes. Everyone played well today but in particular Swift had a great first half and I wish I had a fraction of Sean Sonner's energy. He covered every blade of grass today. Stand in captain Woozley was very impressive at the back also.

Didn't really see the Tilbury incident at the end but when a player slopes off to the bench to get out of the way you suspect there's an element of guilt there. He was lucky not to have conceded a penalty for a push on Burnell a few minutes earlier which was given as a free kick. All that said, I thought the referee was superb today.

Well done Rebels - great overall performance.

Good result where all the team got on with the job and made sure we picked up the points.

First 15-20 mins were probably the best of the game, and thought Sonner played well worthy of a mention with some sweet touches to set others up.

However the game was mared by a deliberate elbow by Dave "I am scum" Tilbury on Ben. But in usual fashion Mr SJ Phipps missed it completely - he has to be the worst ref in this leauge, he made a pigs ear of the Hitchin game and again today he missed a clear red card . I was stood within 10 yards of the incident and it was done clearly with intent.

Good news from the other grounds with results going in our favour.

According to the Zamaretto site we're 1 point behind Rugby with 3 games in hand and already a better goal difference. That said we still have to play Daventry, Arlesey and Leighton away as well as Biggleswade at home.

A quote from the Hitchin forum after they lost to Leighton today:

"Slough can now do us a big favour by taking points of Daventry and Arlesey, they can't keep on winning can they? There is still just a chance of automatic promotion."

They are definitely not happy on their forum, some are calling for the manager to go...not surprised as they have thrown it away with 3 more games played than Arlesey and Daventry.

Funny game, after the two early goals we kind of played in third-gear. Thought Swifty, Sonner and Woozley (who had his best game for us and kept Ryan Bird quiet) were our best players by far today

Yes agree, but also thought Chris Seeby was excellent at the back today not putting a foot wrong.

IMO he along with Woozley ran Sonner very close for MOTM.

Very pleased with todays performance especially first half and with a bit of better finishing from Byrne and Burnell we should have been 4 goals to the good.

Looked very good in central defence with the Woozley and Seeby partnership and personally I will be disappointed if it is changed on Tuesday.

very comfortable win for us. 1st half we ripped through them with ease and really should have been 4-0 up at half time with 2 or 3 great chances missed

2nd half we didnt really get it together very often going forward but we was rarely caused any trouble by Burnham. we coped with the little they could muster very easily. great to have a clean sheet lets hope we build on that though obviously very tough games coming up against higher teams

this ref seems to mess up major decisions every time. generally he was alright but how on earth he missed the foul that injured Swift, how on earth he gave the foul by Tilbury as a free kick instead of a pen and how on earth he and the linesman didnt see the blatant thugish behaviour by the scum of a person that is Dave Tilbury i have no clue. mindblowingly bad. not surprised though if thats the ref we had against Hitchin who sent off Byrne that was a shocking decision also

overall very happy that we got the points so easily. Rugby losing hopefully is enough to inspire us to get something at Daventry

Yep it was the same referee we had against Hitchin.

We have had him several times now and every time he rules over a game I cant get away from the feeling there is a big decision that he will get completely wrong or miss. The Hitchin game it was sending on Byrne, today it was missing the challenge on Swift and the elbow on Abbey. I just don't understand how he is able to get away with refereeing at this level when he misses or makes a decision that's effect the outcome of a game so much.

Just a shame Leighton beat Hitchin. Keeps them in the hunt for the play-offs.

I still think the ref had a decent game! Gary has confirmed that what I thought was a penalty was indeed a free kick so fair play. I didn't see the elbow from Tilbury from left side of goal so the fact that neither linesman or ref saw it can be excused. Bear in mind the fans who saw it were directly behind the goal. The ref was on the exact opposite side of play.

There was a challenge by one of our players (Byrne?) that could have resulted in a card and I've seen other referees this year who would have given yellow cards for dissent to at least two of our players yesterday. To say the ref affected the outcome of the game is wrong. He didn't at all and I still maintain he had a good game, let it flow where necessary and spotted the annoying little pushes that often go unpunished, particularly in the first half.

Referees are human so why on earth should we expect them to get 100% of decisions right. Players don't. Danny Burnell missed an open goal in the first half but nobody is moaning about that because, like the referee, it didn't change the result.

fair play if the video footage shows it was outside the box, from my angle it looked impossible that it was but shows what having different angles can do

i dont think the ref ruined the game but its just so irritating that a player like Tilbury can constantly lead with his arm and get away with it and then top it off with lashing out at Ben Abbey. players like that are a disgrace to football and so often the dirtiest players seem to get away with it far more than they should. horshams photos show he threw his arm at Abbey not sure if it was an elbow or not

anyway the only important thing is the win and a clean sheet

2 questions:

1. when was the last time we beat Burnham in a competitive match?

2. how many clean sheets have we got this season?

When I was taking the photos it looked from my angle that his fingers went across Ben's eyes, rather than an elbow.

It will be interesting to see it on video from Gary's angle opposite.

It's that old argument of angles again

To answer your questions, someone said that the last time we beat Burnham in a competitive match was in the early 70's (74 I think)

Clean sheets - three (Marlow, Hayes, Oxford)

cheers for the answers

so 5th clean sheet in all comps this season. of which the Marlow and Oxford games were cup games i believe

if only we could sort out the goals against we would be at least 5 maybe 10+ points up on what we are now as we have scored a fair few

next 3 games are massive for our season. if we could get anything at Daventry and Arlesley it would be a bonus arguably (dont wanna reopen the abandonded game debate again). the Northwood game is a must win BUT we should not underestimate them at all. job needs to be done professionally. if we get more than 3 points from the next 3 we would be in a strong position.
