A thought from me....

 

What happens if we have a lot of canx games again next season ( as we probably will ) and they have to come over on a Sat / Tue / Sat..... Another thought is say a club draws them in a cup away and has to mplay them Sat / Tue away. Now I know that would be financially painful no matter what the budget.

I note their coach isTony Vance, who coached Guernsey to victory in the FA Inter-League Cup. He won't know too many decent players then.

Can't be that good mind, they lost to Turkish side Ankara when representing England in the UEFA Regions Cup

Great banter at Meadowbank this evening by grass-roots supporters of both sides. Lots of punters reckoned it'll never work.

 

Best commenty I heard was, "Who the feck are Guernsey ? Do they play is some Essex league ?"

 

You couldn't make it up, could you ? I daren't tell you the response I got when I mentioned the Channel Islands ! Suffice it to say, I was asked if it was anything to do with the Isle of Wight !!

Bonjour

 

My parents live in Guernsey so I keep an eye on football over there. Very much doubt GFC will be that similar to AFC Wimbledon - they won't have the fan base or history as a club in their own right. I think they will have 1 or 2 boys who've played in the UK but the rest will rarely have played anywhere other than their own back yard. If the CCs is anything like the NCEL then they will have to get used to a different type of football so I wouldn't expect them to just sail through, and their boys won't have the kind of swagger you reckon they'll have because it'll all be new for most of them. I think you're describing a club like Farsley up here who were in the conference only 2 years ago but went out of business and reformed with a massive budget in the NCEL, a lot of big names and the egos to match.

 

As for £750k, maybe move the decimal point to the left once - even a place like Guernsey isn't going to be able to come up with that money.

 

My old fella told me Tony Vance played for Wycombe under O'Neil and Enfield as well so he must have a little bit about him - he seems to have done well with their national side but he's still fairly young and its his first job.

 

I'll certainly make a trip down on the train to watch them next season - doubtless you lot will have mixed views but I'd love to see a club like that join the NCEL, even if I might not be able to afford to go away.
