Wood v Ash & Suburban League

Recommended Posts

Wood came from a goal down to complete a league double over Ash at Wibbandune on Wednesday.

Alan Hanning had given the visitors a deserved lead on 15 minutes when he stabbed home from close range but Wood were handed a lifeline in stoppage time when a defensive mix up allowed Dan Hammond to fire home unchallenged.

This competitive game could have gone either way in the second half but Emmanuel Quarshie out-jumped Arjuna Adlam, the Ash keeper, to give Wood the lead on 77 minutes and Luke Brooks-Smith fired home a stoppage time free kick to ease any worries for the Wood faithful.

Hearing news of 3 Suburban League divisions under the premier division!

We think a North, Central & South divisions of 12 to 14 teams is being proposed.

Anyone got any updates?

I didn't know that Ash had a reserve team I thought they dispanded last year, by the sounds of the players you have mentioned it looks like the 1st team are covering their fixtures.

Think there has been a mix up here Duncs. The report is regarding the first team game last night, the second half of the post is Re Suburban

Chris spot on with the report, thought we were in control until the awful defensive mix-up 30seconds before half time. 2nd half thought you looked the more dangerous of the two sides but again poor defending allowed you to claim two more goals & a well deserved win

Your keeper was fantastic untill he made the mistake and that seemed to throw him off for the rest of the game. Thought he was able to get to the freekick as he didn't move and it was just a couple of feet past him. The first goal CWU scored came at the right time and they carried on the momentum into the second half.

I have also spoken to some-one 'in the know' today who spoke about 3 divisions, as you suggest above, for next season.

CHRIS DO YOU THINK THAT THE SUBURBAN HAVING 4 DIVISIONS NEXT SEASON AS OPPOSED TO THE CURRENT 3 IS BECUASE THEIR LEAGUE ARE GETTING STRONGER SO MORE CLUBS ARE APPLYING TO JOIN THE LEAGUE ? OR IS IT A COST SAVING FACTOR FOR THE CLUBS MAKING THE DIVISIONS MORE REGIONAL ? GF/VP ANY IDEA ?

- THE SURBURBAN PREMIER TOP 6 WOULD DO OKAY IN THE CCL PREM IMO....... THERE ARE SOME TALENTED YOUNG PLAYERS IN THAT DEVISION.......

Not really sure what the thinking is. Divisions of 12/13 would mean less midweek games and the re-introduction, maybe, of the Suburban Shield. Not aware of any new clubs applying as yet.

Will do.

I know from our point of view that we are concerned about being placed in the Northern section, which could mean trips to Herts, Bucks and Beds etc.

If that happened, I am not sure if we would run in the league next season!

i did a quick re-shuffling re north and south teams on Wednesday of my own and there are plenty of north sides to make up a league of 13 already.

Interesting.

I have a feeling the Suburban may be looking at reduced numbers for next season due to the new Wyvern League that's starting. That's based on a similar concept to the Suburban - a Premier Division with two regional divisions below it. It's based in Hampshire / Wessex League area so could take a few Suburban teams with it. I'd say Eastleigh are sure to switch and maybe teams like Fleet, Cove and Hartley Wintney will as well.

If that happens then, speaking from a personal point of view, that'll make the Suburban League North Division less desirable for Camberley due to the lack of local games but then, if the league's being reshuffled, it may not be a problem. We are hoping to be in the Suburban Premier for next season though.

One thing the Suburban has got going for it is three officials in all divisions. The Wyvern League will only have three in the top division, the lower divisions will have club linos. As much as we slate the officials, three proper ones is always better than club linos at our level.

I know Tony K. reads and posts on this forum occasionally so I'd be interested to hear his views. Obviously he can't tell us everything but are there clubs resigning from the league this season to switch across?

As far as i'm aware (what I got told the other day) with regards to the Suburban next season, there is going to be a top division purely consisting of Southern Conference National and Conference South sides. Under that there will be 2 or 3 divisions as Chris has suggested. I understand this is possibly due to the Conf National/South sides complaining about some of the other reserve sides not being 'up to scratch' although don't quote me on that!!

As you have stated, the Suburban are awear of the cost of runnng a reserve team and every year the management comittee have a chat regardng the way ts run We had a meetng a week ago when some ideas were mentioned, but the date for clubs to advise that they wish to leave was 31 march, Until we know which teams wish to leave and also wish to joint are known the format can then be worked on and advised to clubs, who vote on it at the AGM I can advise that there are always a number of clubs enquiring about the league and this is the case this year

I am sorry i cant say any more, but to be far to the teams in the league they should hear from us first, not via a forum
